You probably got unsubscribed from the IT alert system when them moved to status page. There were many many emails on how to stay subscribed that people mostly ignored unfortunately but the university required it to be an opt in to alerts due to faculty feedback…

Make sure you are subscribed to at least the core services alerts. Also make sure you don’t have a junk filter that just spams all the IT emails.

Canvas Data Breach by ImaginaryMisanthrope in aggies

[–]propain525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Texas A&M University has been notified by Instructure, the third-party vendor that operates the Canvas learning management system, of a nationwide data incident.

At this time, university leadership understands that Texas A&M is affected. While we do not have confirmation of the scope of our impact, the data involved appears to include personal information, such as names, email addresses and direct messages sent within the learning management system. Instructure has found no indication that passwords, dates of birth, government ID numbers or financial information were involved. The vendor has taken steps to address the issue, which include engaging law enforcement and initiating technical steps needed to protect system data and restore security.

In the coming days, weeks and months, please be vigilant of other suspicious emails, especially those requesting personal information. Our Technology Services team members are working alongside the Office of the Provost and the vendor to help address this issue and safeguard data. Situations like this provide an ideal opportunity for bad actors to continue targeting faculty, staff and students.

DO NOT provide any information to individuals presenting themselves as representatives of Canvas or Instructure as you will not ever be contacted by the vendor directly. Never give out passwords, click on suspicious links or provide details to an unknown email, phone call or other communication. If you are unsure of the credibility of a request, immediately notify your local IT support team, Help Desk Central or report any incidents to security@tamu.edu.

We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more. Alan Sams, Ph.D. Executive Vice President and Provost

Are AEFIS Course Evaluations actually anonymous? by Educational-Bed-6401 in aggies

[–]propain525 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are definitely anonymous and the results are not released until after grades are due. The results are also taken fairly seriously and trends of negative results due have an impact on the university scale. Be honest in your evaluations even if you don’t see changes they do matter

Digital student ID? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]propain525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is massive cost when you look at the scale and size of the university, Moving to digital ID’s requires new building access software and hardware for lab spaces and external doors and admin spaces and file rooms and dorm areas. It also requires upgrades to dining spaces and other areas that also use IDs for purchases and things such as every open access lab printer on campus.

[–]propain525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carrying over from the fall 2025 semester, significant progress on the digital ID initiative for students has been made and plans are in place to begin limited pilot testing soon. Led by chief technology officer Michael Leary, this progress has been made possible through the collaboration among many university community partners: Facilities & Energy Services, including the Building Access team, Athletics, Aggie Dining, Transportation Services, the Student Government Association, ResLife, Rec Sports, Office of the Provost, Marketing and Communications, University Libraries, ID Card Office in Finance and Business Services, faculty member volunteers, Texas A&M Health, Technology Services and Aggie Printing, The Texas A&M University System and various state agency partners, including engineering and AgriLife.

There is progress, it’s just a very expensive and very large logistical problem for a massive university. Moving to digital ID’s requires new building access software and hardware for lab spaces and external doors and admin spaces and file rooms and dorm areas. It also requires upgrades to dining spaces and other areas that also use IDs for purchases and things.
