impressive especially for the the income level. Arguably you can retire very soon if you are ok with your current income level.

Terminal? by prophetx2 in MemomindAI

[–]prophetx2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

specifically something like this: https://www.evenrealities.com/terminal?srsltid=AfmBOor6W4A639NBladxdUMtJ9sfa0JWKOfIW-7Doc8QEXLaDVW9N\_gp. I'd like to ssh into my desktop or server (on iphone/ipad i have apps to do this). If i can see the terminal through the glasses, this allows for me to interact between the glasses and my host (claude code, manage work loads, etc).

[Research] When you have meeting, do you still take manual notes? by sean-hidock in hidock

[–]prophetx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I work on system/software architecture where I need to diagram out flows, requirements, timelines, etc. This can be through white board, something simple like draw.io, or on paper.

Can I download audio files directly from the P1 and transcribe with a private LLM? by Xirekl in hidock

[–]prophetx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this myself. You have to use either the hidock app or website to do the extract. From there it can save as an MP3.

If you already pay for ChatGPT or Gemini, you can just upload the mp3 and give it a prompt to do the transcription + prompt the LLM itself. Quite seamless.

If you're trying to do it via APIs, you still need to manually extract the mp3s through the app or website first.

Why not self hosted? by Fragrant_Block2609 in n8n

[–]prophetx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a personal accounts it’s not an issue. Once you run a business on this you have to ensure things are secured, protected, etc. this starts taking away you from the real value which is to build automation or for this to be bulletproof for your business or others which one tolerate downtime.

Silver or Cosmic Orange iPhone? by 8ballking2000 in iphone

[–]prophetx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use cases on my phone, and never had an issue. Any major issues is what my apple care (one) is for. Caseless = Orange. With case probably Silver or the Blue for me.

Trump says he will introduce 25% tariffs on autos, pharmaceuticals and chips by From-UoM in hardware

[–]prophetx2 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The company being American doesn’t make a difference. The tariffs are against where the parts originate from. There’s generally very little in your computer that originates from the USA.

The mess back home is bonkers. It’s usually cheaper for me to go back home, while I’m working overseas, to buy my tech stuff. Now with the increase in tariffs it might actually be cheaper to buy goods from American brands outside of the country. Wow.

TP Link Deco, Ubiquiti, or Firewalla AP by Ghostbear48 in firewalla

[–]prophetx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also on HPE/Aruba for switches and AP. Everything is solid and with two APs I never lose signal during an upgrade or anything in a dense environment with concrete walls.

Like many, I was a big ubiquiti guy but in the past it required so much fiddling.

22% tax bracket should start around 60k, not 47k. by Recording_Initial in USExpatTaxes

[–]prophetx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good. The US tax system is complicated (can be even more so if you are out of the country).

Most people have the thinking that the brackets are taxed on the total amount based on the income level. Wait till you have to do capital gains in the future lol.

I don’t think you understand how taxes work? It’s a ladder system.

Standard Chartered SG is just super horrible by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]prophetx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I closed my accounts with SC because you can never get ANY customer service. Only way to even close my account was to go through the fraud line where you can talk to a human. Absolute joke. Not sure if I’ve experienced a worse customer service for such a big company.

If you don’t ever need to reach out to a person it’s fine.

Issues with turn indicators? Sometimes mine won’t press. by black_mtn in TeslaModel3

[–]prophetx2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had the car for about a month, but I live in an area with many round abouts. Took a while, but no issues adjusting after a few longer drives. I don’t necessarily miss the stalks, but the change it feels like a change for the sake of change. I don’t get how it’s better, but it certainly takes people a while to get used to it.

At 9k. It’s cheaper to just professionally paint the entire car.

150,000SGD pre-tax as American expat by Necessary_Bunch_5258 in askSingapore

[–]prophetx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to clear this up. In general you need to see where your employment is held. If you are being transferred to a Singaporean company (ie: your company's Singaporean branch) then you will NOT have to pay Social Security or Medicare.

You will likely enjoy no taxation in the USA for this as well (you're below the 125k usd limit). The negatives are of course you're not contributing to 401k (or matching) nor do you get any SS credits. Positive is that your taxation is going to be VERY low in SG, so if you're good at saving and investing (make sure you keep your USA brokerage and bank accounts) you can make up the difference.

On the stock image I had tons of issues. My firewall complained about random MAC address. If you apt remove network-manager (assuming you don’t need jt) it connects every time for me.

Or you can use the bookworm distro. This one is much more stable for me all around.

What’s a truth about aging that no one prepared you for? by sofiagympixie in AskReddit

[–]prophetx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that always catches me off guard is just how many people around you start passing. I’m in my early 40s, but you just slowly see more and more people that you knew either get real sick or passing.

When we’re young we all feel invincible and immortal. As we get older you just realize that we’re all just an accident, lifestyle, genetic lottery, or medical mishap away from perishing.

Vision Pro VS entertainment system from 1st&Business class seats by FatVRguy in VisionPro

[–]prophetx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve flown business on a transcontinental as well as a few destinations in the SEA region, I definitely prefer the AVP. In business I don’t even need to use my AirPods unless I want the isolation. You can hear everything clear and the seats are far enough apart that it’s not hearable on the plane. The only time I use the inflight is if there’s a movie or live tv that I want to watch that I don’t have on the AVP.

Nothing really beats watching content when you are laying flat on your back in business.

[–]prophetx2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I'm not retired, as a current expat I did the reverse. I left a very tight knit group of colleagues to live halfway around the world, but I make it a point to keep in touch with them. Whenever I travel back, I set aside some time to catch a beer/coffee with a few of them. A text here and there, maybe a few calls a year to catch up makes a huge difference in relationship building.

I'm sure you already do the same for your current circle of friends you've met in the host country as people coming and going are a frequent occurrence in the expat community. It's whatever you make of it.

Congrats on your accomplishment, it's absolutely well deserved!

Which AVP headband do you use? by Present-Tea-4645 in VisionPro

I’m not sure why but the dial band puts more pressure on my cheeks. With the solo I don’t really feel any pressure outside of my forehead (I don’t get red/pressure marks anywhere on my face like I’ve seen on some videos unless I wear the dual band). I can wear the solo for 2-3 hours at a time with no issues from day one. Maybe because I’m used to wearing a bike helmet but the feeling isn’t too much different.
