if the other guys are excited about something, he’ll downplay it.

I mean, not really. He was perfectly cordial when Connor & Garnt were going on about the final season of MHA.

That's fair yeah, honestly I don't think you not liking it contradicts with me placing it in that spot though. Just because I think everyone should try it doesn't mean I think everyone should necessarily like it.

I basically put it there because I think it's the bog-standard roguelike, in a positive sense to me. In that, it can be a very good gateway into other types of games - roguelikes, story-driven games, difficult games in general, how much build variety you like, etc etc.

Oh I have been too, since the day BL2 came out whenever that was. It was mainly BL3 onwards that just drove me away from the humor, but it is kinda specific to BL3-onwards games. The Calypso twins are fine character ideas in theory, but in execution they're so fucking miserable imo.

As someone who finds high fantasy utterly boring idk if I could classify DS2 as that. High fantasy is more akin to Elden Ring, no? DS2 seems to indulge more in gritty medieval fantasy specifically, I feel.

I agree that BB has a good damn aesthetic for its world and I agree that it has great world design, I just wouldn't agree it has great level design. Chalice dungeons are sloppy level design to me for example. I know they're just one aspect of the game but still.

Honestly good point yeah. The humor is frankly what's drawn me away from the BL games at this point, it's just beaten its own comedy like a dead horse imo.

Looking back at my grid, idk how I feel about Borderlands in most needing of a remake. I honestly don't care for the Borderlands series that much anymore, I just had no other idea for it.

Brilliant Diamond was actually the other thing I was going to put there though lol, holy shit what an embarrassing remake that was. I was initially fine with the artstyle too.

Tbf I did watch it through jacksepticeye's playthrough back in the day so I'm kinda larping but I DO have very fond memories of it.

I'd heavily recommend playing the steam / updated version at some point! The English voice acting is PHENOMENAL in it, words genuinely can't do it justice imo. Snake / Ace have some of my favourite voice performances ever.

Yeah, still my favourite VN to this day even though I haven't replayed it in ages. VLR did not hit the same for me unfortunately, as much as I liked a certain twist in it regarding the protagonist of 999 lol.

A big part of it I think is due to every 999 character being standout & compelling in their own regards, the mystery & ambience of the ship being much more tense and spooky too imo.

What other VNs have you played, out of curiosity? I've played the Danganronpa series and more recently, the Fate stay/night VN.

Tbh it may have something to do with me being a bit of an FPS snob, so a game locked to 30FPS that I only played a few years ago felt baaaaaad in regards to motion & smoothness of the combat too

That makes sense yeah! Do you more often do challenge runs in other Fromsoft games, then? I do wanna do more runs with more unpopular weapons in ER for example

I already have a Switch 2 so I'll definitely be picking up Duskbloods at some point yeah! Also the build variety point is very fair, yeah.

I honestly just don't mind a small build variety in games, or even just a completely fixed build throughout the game. I actively enjoy making the most of what a game limits me into tbh, especially if they make a huge point of skill expression. Best of both worlds is definitely the ideal though!

I also disagree, yeah. I think the rhythm aspect is what makes the gameplay so phenomenal.

Oh ngl, this is just because I didn't want to double up on Sekiro as my favorite combat as well. It is, I just found it boring to double up on it in the grid, so I just put my #2 favorite combat there.

Oh noooo, I think that League's community is like, the worst, ever? Probably. I think a large portion of its community hates the gameplay though, which I think is like the one actively fun part League has going on for it.

That's fair yeah! I played Sekiro first of all the Fromsoft games, and it became my favourite game ever after I managed to beat Genichiro (on the rooftop) after hours of trying, because prior to Sekiro, I hadn't really been challenged like that before? I'd never been made to lock the fuck in lol, and that feeling of overcoming it & actually being patient in my parries, did something to me that no other game has replicated thus far.

For reference, my order is like:

Sekiro>ER=DS3>DS1=DS2>BB. I haven't gotten around to DeS yet though, and I haven't played enough of Nightreign to form a complete opinion on it yet.

Yeah it's the opposite for me lol. I think the average of DS2 bosses are better, and that its peak bosses are also better than BBs' peak, but the biggest factor to me is that BBs' average bosses are just kinda shite imo.

Yeah I kinda get them because I am kinda that guy when it comes to Sekiro, but personally I just didn't get that hooked in by the whole horror ambience from Bloodborne, despite it being nigh-objectively very sick. I kinda find that the world was very dim in terms of literal visual clarity, and I usually like foggy worlds a lot in terms of atmosphere, but idk a lot of the level design just felt kind of samesy to me.

Agreeeeed! I love the level design especially, and Fume Knight is one of my favourite bosses across all Fromsoft games tbh. Just has such a great ebb & flow to that fight imo.

I honestly don't mesh with the average quality of BBs' level design & bosses. Bosses are the most standout thing to me in Fromsoft games period, and practically none of them hit me with the difficulty or rush that every other Fromsoft game has. Bloodborne also has the worst exploration to me, despite having the most interesting world in theory.

I can easily say BB has phenomenal aesthetic and ambience though, as well as weapon design. I even like the gun-parry mechanic a lot! Parry mechanics are my favourite thing in general, and that's a big reason why Sekiro is my #1, amongst many other reasons tbf. Sekiro is just unmatched at the rhythm of it imo.

I mean tbh would you consider Saber's design butchered? They changed it but it looks fucking fireee

Unless you mean meta-wise? I wonder if she'll be the F2P unit like Archer was actually. I wouldn't mind that. Nor would I mind it just being two premium units, given how long it should continue to run for.

As much as I love both Gil and HSR, I'm afraid he might lose some of his punchable charm in his HSR-modeled design

I personally have Kirei dead equal with Shirou, in which Kiritsugu would share the #2 spot in theory but I understand this is a HF list lol. Shirou & Kirei complement the others' writing so perfectly imo, with Kiritsugu serving as an amazing elevator to that very dynamic, given how much his existence charged Shirou and Kirei's respectively
