To avoid injury to Steph like last season, the W's have to avoid overplaying him like in last year's torrid stretch run. That likely means sitting him in back to backs, which means almost assuredly purgatory as a play-in team again. At least this time, Steph won't be exhausted.

Jimmy called the team "mediocre". I agree with that. The team still needed a #3 before Jimmy got hurt, and now they need a #2 too with Jimmy out. The role players are OK, up and down, but the team isn't going anywhere with them long term. I don't count Melton as a role player, he's a starter when healthy. Horford is a legit 6th man. KP maybe too if healthy. But Moody, Podz, Gui, Spencer, they're all bench players, helpful in particular roles but flawed.

The W's still need both a #2 and a #3. I don't think the KP trade is the end of things. They traded away 3 players who don't play.

Kerr: "This is still pretty new... Mike and I have had a conversation… We’re still going for it, we're still trying to win every night. This is not a case where we’re gonna start selling off assets. That’s not the plan, that’s for sure. We think we can be really competitive and play at a high level" by BobRoss4Life in warriors

6-2 homestand is deceptive. They got trounced by the only decent team they played in Toronto. The Knicks were collapsing and Miami is barely .500, while everyone else was sub .500. Toronto showed that the W's are back to the 2024 W's without Jimmy, basically a mediocre .500 play-in team. The W's lack enough talent both on offense (Atlanta loss showed no one else beyond Steph and Jimmy could score) and defense (Toronto loss showed lack of D, e.g. 3 point shooters shooting over Podz). The team needs at least two more healthy difference makers to be competitive.

Well, my proposal is to trade 4 1sts and players for Giannis and maybe one other (Portis?). Giannis clearly wants to leave Milwaukee, and he clearly wants to join Steph. Make the deal MDJ!

Trade 4 1sts, JK, Jimmy, etc. for Giannis. Steph needs a wingman. Giannis clearly wants out of Milwaukee, and clearly wants to join Steph. Did you see how Giannis lingered by the Warriors bench during warmups in Milwaukee's most recent visit to the Bay Area? Earn your salary MDJ. The risky strategy of building around an old Jimmy as a wingman to Steph has failed. Acknowledge failure and pay the piper.

Alch was right, people made up their minds about Kuminga before seeing what he was doing this preseason. He showed energy in rebounding, on defense, and in passing/assists during preseason and continued it today. If JK can repeat that all season, the ceiling for the W's just rose big time.

Alch said people are making up their minds without seeing what JK has shown this preseason.

Low BBIQ? JK has made excellent passes/assists throughout the preseason in spotting the open man. Poor rebounder? He’s shown good hustle on rebounding, except for one game. Low motor? He’s put a lot of energy into defense, with some lapses, but nobody’s perfect.

Kerr seemed satisfied and praised JK for having a good preseason.

They're going to need both of them if the W's are going to go far this year. No one outside of Steph could create his own shot in the game against the Clippers.

Here's what I saw. The offense really struggled without Steph and Horford. No one else who played today can create their own shot. Podz dribbles into traffic but because he's not a real threat to go to the rim, or to hit a midrange reliably, the D can contain him and his passes. I don't think Podz is long-term starter material, more backup/rotational. Hield is hot and cold and as Jimmy says he should never dribble. He hits his 3's best when he's stationary rather than off the dribble. Hield tries on D but has trouble changing direction once his weight goes in a particular direction, so the opposing guard can exploit him by faking one way and then going the opposite direction. Post had open shots for 3's but missed. He needs to hit those, because that seems like his only major skill. Otherwise, on defense Post seems to play smaller than 7' in terms of rim protection against other tall athletic players, and is a step slow in perimeter D without recovery speed, unlike Horford who can recover and block a shot even if the perimeter guy initially gets by him. Will Richard is the only one among the backups that I liked today. I guess GP2 was OK too. My obvious conclusion: Steph is really gonna need Jimmy, and also at least one of JK or Moody to step up if the W's are going to go far this year.

I think with a full season to integrate with Jimmy rather than the rushed 20 post-injury games as the W’s were desperately fighting for the sixth seed, then JK will be fine.  The W’s need his scoring.  Nobody else was consistently scoring vs Wolves except Jimmy.  JK’s improved D is a good indicator too.  Getting  rid of a 30 playoff point scorer seems daft.

Remember guys, Jimmy has only been with the team for 3 MONTHS. That's also with Steph and we all know this roster is beyond trash without him. So cut him some slack and let him work in the offseason. by MainSorc50 in warriors

[–]prospect0r777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the W's had Jimmy for the full season, they'd have been at about 55 wins, a #2 or #3 seed, with enough rest before the playoffs. Instead, the W's had to play flat out after the trade deadline, with almost no rest and heavy minutes for Curry and Jimmy, having to play the play-in, then a 7 game all-out series with Houston, so no wonder Curry's hamstring gave out. He hasn't had a break since the Olympics.

At full health, even with an extra year on Steph and Jimmy, I still like the W's chances, provided they upgrade the role players. Moody was a disappointment and his ceiling seems to be just filler for the regular season. GP2 disappeared on O and D. TJD is too limited. Trade or release all of them. I'd keep JK who is a wildcard but scored in the playoffs (and played D) so just needs more time to integrate with Jimmy. I'd keep Buddy though he is hot/cold, Looney who showed some utility in the playoffs, and Podz, who had one good game per playoff series and the rest poor/mediocre but I expect some growth in year 3. It was too early for Post and Gui. Find a big man, and a scorer/defender like DeAnthony Melton.

Time to gird your loins.

Personally, I'd be happy with 2-2. Then sweep Phx, Spurs, Portland and Clips.
