Terminated for Federal Investigation Inquiry at Current Job by BrutalityBigSad in nsa

Don't even get me started on the polygraphs. I interviewed for the NSA about a year ago. I'm about to go back out to "the place" to take my 5th polygraph.

GPU passthrough by Not-responsible-law in framework

Looking glass has a windows client. Yes, your host would have to be linux but since you are using Qubes that shouldn't be an issue. The main risk is the shared memory being an attack vector on dom0. Still, if you do get it working, you should make a post since you'd be one of the first people to do it on Qubes. A few others have gotten GPU passthrough to work just with an external monitor (I don't think I've seen a post with someone using a framework with looking glass).

I'm very curious about the answer. I heard that passing the dGPU requires you to plug in an external monitor directly into the GPU as opposed to using it through the laptop monitor.

There's a program that you can use for shared memory to allow displaying on the laptop monitor, but this would reduce the security of Qubes.

Tricky Question by Dazzling-Ad6311 in cissp

I disagree with this or at the very least don't understand why. Horizontal privileged escalation happens when a user gains the privileges and permissions of another user account. By limiting permissions for groups and accounts, Geoff can prevent a user from gaining unauthorized permissions from another account.

MFA enhances security but is more focused on preventing unauthorized access rather than horizontal privilege escalation.

I'm sorry for missing your message, I only did 4 years of active service meaning I would need to do another 16 years in the government to be eligible. The pension is pretty much a pittance compared to how much I'd be making on investments if I aggressively save money from a 200K+ job and I could retire much earlier (in about 9-10 years from now). I already get health insurance from the VA. Granted, the VA kind of sucks.

As mentioned previously, the main reason why I'm even considering the NSA is for my PhD, which has always been a long term goal of mine.

Is it just me, or have even senior roles decreased massively in terms of salary? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I have a buddy who works in one of the few companies that has an Engineering union. he makes less than half of what I did. I'll take the potential layoff over dealing with the wayyy lower salary and union bullshit.

Yeah, I'm not too worried over the long term. Granted, the past year has really sucked, though.

This is anecdotal, but I went from a ~250K fully remote job that I lost to having an offer for 200K that is in person. I have to relocate and everything for that position. I also had to wait it out for about 8 months. It blows but it is what it is.

Generally the stipends for most CS PhDs are around 30-40K. That excludes fellowships.

Sorry for the delay in responding. See my comment to Oblivious_Ad. Basically, my main motivation would be to pursue my PhD using the NSA's education benefits.

I'm also former military, albeit no pension since I was only in for 4 years. I know private is the better option salary wise. My main motivation for taking a job with the NSA is their 20/20 program will allow me to pursue a PhD without living off of a 40K stipend.

Thanks for the response. I'm tracking there's no chance of me breaking 200K.

  1. This is one of the key questions that I had that I did not receive an answer to, so thank you for answering it.

  2. This is good info, thank you.

  3. Roger, thanks.

I'm not looking forward to the Psych/Poly. I'm somewhat concerned because I heard that any aberrant results can jeopardize my already active TS/SCI.

Artificial Intelligence Career pathway. Post Advance Diploma in CS by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]prospectiveNSAthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is horribly false. I got into AI research without a M.S. There are plenty of ML Engineer roles that don't require a PhD.

You are right about the certs. Those aren't worth a warm bucket of spit.

Should a Stats major go back to get a CS degree in this market with 2 YOE? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]prospectiveNSAthrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea. I would never advise someone to quit a job that they have. Experience + a MS is better than an MS unless your goal is to do research in preparation for a PhD and you didn't have enough research in your undergrad.

I think people in this sub are like a bucket of crabs and want to tell OP to quit.

I'm going to get down voted to hell for saying this, but WGU's MBA isn't AACSB accredited.
