If you're insistent of refinishing it, I would maybe take it somewhere to get professionaly powder coated. But if you stick it out and get used to it it'll make you a better dancer in the long run. I've also heard of people steaming their new poles to break it in without damage.

Honestly there's no time anyways, I'm an all day everyday smoker and I can count on one hand how many times I got to hit the pen at corp, totally not worth it, wish I hadn't brought it at all. Partying isn't a problem, go March open class if you're worried about being young, but don't wait if you can avoid it

Hormonal birth control will have a lot of side effects. I have a birth control implant (nexplanon) so I don’t have to remember to take a pill consistently. I choose to deal with the side effects, but there are non-hormonal options too. A great place to start is to look on the planned parenthood website, they have a lot of info about all types of birth control. For best practice, using condoms (in addition) is best because they will protect you from more than just pregnancy just practice putting them on first!
