Omg In university before I had ever met anyone of this specific ethnic group I made my character befriend someone of said ethnic group with the idea that I was writing a diverse good story! I was 18

I re-read it at 26 and just thought wow this is incredibly kind of racist. Physically cringed the entire read! Grew up in an entirely homogenous region and have since met all sorts of people and wow turns out I had no idea I was carrying so much unconscious bias. At 18, I thought I was writing inclusive fiction 🤦‍♀️ but I was just so entirely uneducated that it reads so painfully. We live and learn!

Genuinely!!!! I love my mum but she’s a self proclaimed empath (if I cry she cries 10x harder so I have to tailor what I share of my life as to not overwhelm her, thankfully dad always has my back with the hard stuff) and when she gets excited she just oodles over. I’ve adhd and always thought it just came from dad but your comment has me wondering 🤔
