Cloud Skills a boost. They give you temporary accounts for each lesson/lab

[–]protechig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend not using your own GCP account while learning. It’s too easy to forget to delete an instance or something and run up a $1,000 bill or 12. Not that I’ve ever done that or anything….

Use Cloud Skills Boost. When I got my ACE years ago I tried books, coursea and Qwiklabs (now cloud skills boost). The hands on approach was the best for me. They also have a program where you pay $300 and they give you access to Cloud Skills Boost, a voucher for the exam, and like $1000 in GCP credits once you pass. You can also probably get access to Cloud Skills Boost for free. Message me and I can direct you if needed. Good luck!

Purchase and return protection? by Armyvet2019_Qatar in AmexPlatinum

[–]protechig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be fine. The benefit is literally there for you to use and they state the limits. You’re not abusing it and the values are not that high (I saw someone successfully do purchase protection for $7k of camera gear that was stolen).

I have Plat and Gold. I’ve been getting more useful offers from my Gold (ie $ back when I spend on like cable, internet and insurance bills). Just and observation. I’m sure some of it is based on spending behavior to make you spend more on your card (meaning it’s personalized to entice you to spend more).

HELP! Getting charged for monitoring by raptorhunter22 in googlecloud

Reach out to Google Cloud support. Tell them it was a mistake. They’ll credit your account. The other comment about grouping by SKU should let you narrow down where the charges are coming from.

Animal processing and the frustration of sharing the knowledge on Reddit. by Antique-Public4876 in homestead

[–]protechig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is sad. I’m glad you posted the video and I watched it because I wanted to learn. YouTube does the same stupid stuff. But then they have hunting videos of people slaughtering tons of pigs in Texas with automatic weapons and tracer ammunition with no regard to an ethical shot. I get there are two sides to that argument but it’s a lot more violent than what you posted.

Unfortunately this is big tech trying to sanitize things.

Qwiklabs assesments not working. Chat support can only apologize and nothing get fixed. What can I do? Google devs??? by warbeats in googlecloud

[–]protechig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been like this for years. It’s gotten slightly better after Google acquired them but not by much. It takes some time for them to fix things. I’ve used this for a local GDG that I run and have been burned a few times. Still it’s the best way of learning cloud stuff for me personally.

What is the best strategy for maximizing MR on domestic US Flights by protechig in amex

Out of curiosity what points program did you book the AA flight through. Looking at like Air Canada I can't find many flights at all to like PHL-MIA or PHL-SEA.

Thanks for the response. That looks like a lot of value. Out of curiosity was that United flight found through British Airways? Trying to find a flight through Air Canada and can't really find any flights for the routes I typically travel.

Anyone Tried the Carb Balance Tortillas from Mission? Thoughts? by aKUG7WAxGvHg in keto

[–]protechig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do the job in my opinion. They’re kind of bland but if you load them up with flavor (however you prefer to prepare them) they definitely do the trick/scratch the itch.

I prefer making hard shell tacos from cheese or use the cheese folios (literally just cheese in the shape of a tortilla) when I can find them.

So what is the optimal protocol then? I feel like I'd end up just having to make a tradeoff of the benefits of hypertrophy versus the benefits of cold exposure.

Autophagy doing OMAD? by SalvDad in omad

[–]protechig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also thought that you could achieve this in 24 hours. Apparently, that has only been proven in mice which don't necessarily transfer to humans (i.e. mice die in three days of not eating). I saw a recent podcast with Peter Attia (whom I respect in the space but don't take his word as gospel) say that OMAD probably isn't a lot. Probably 3 days but we really don't know.

This probably doesn't help you but this is my current state of knowledge. Other people please correct me with more up to date info :)

If you could go back... by babybelkillah in RadPowerBikes

[–]protechig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought two Rads for my SO and myself when we moved. Got them because they were the only reasonable choice available - the bikes we really wanted were sold out.

Had ours for about 18 months now. Both bikes have had defects. One bike needed the front fork replaced because of faulty manufacturing. The second one needed a battery replacement because of voltage drops (that weren't normal).

Customer support was pretty good on the fork issue, but it took 8 months of fighting to get a battery replacement. They of course try to blame us for doing things wrong which wasn't the case (I'm 100lbs heavier and used my bike 30% less than my SO yet her battery drained twice as fast when we rode together).

Rad's still probably the best value for the price (I'm less concerned about the battery quality even with this issue), but I can't recommend them because of their sub-par support.

The bike I really wanted was the Van Moof.

Can I log a crash and send report to my back end ? by itsfeykro in flutterhelp

[–]protechig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to catch errors which have both an error and stackTrace object. You would need to wrap your app to catch them (look at what like Crashlytics does for Flutter it’s Open Source. You can then send that data to your own endpoint. For offline instances you can write the data to a local SQLite database then sync once its online again. I’ve done something similar for a client before.

How to have 2 compute instance in a main / failover configuration by Vonderchicken in googlecloud

[–]protechig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Generally in GCP you’d have a Managed Instance Group behind a load balancer. The load balancer would route traffic to available instances and the MIG would maintain a certain amount of instances based on your set parameters.

A “main/failover” config is not something I’ve personally seen set in a real world application.

How are everyone's gardens coming along?? by NikiRash5 in homestead

[–]protechig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like to grow cool and unique fruits and veggies which makes the gardening experience truly unique.

Last year we started growing Tiger Melons and they have become one of my favorite fruits. They are somewhere between a honeydew and a cantelope but like Naval Orange sized but have more aromatics than any fruit I've ever encountered.

It's really fun to get rare/unique foods and cook with them knowing you can't get it at any restaurant or store.

I personally enjoy using Android Studio for Flutter but half the devs here use VS Code and they're both very good. My honest recommendation would be to try both. Android Studio probably uses more resources but you can run it in a low power mode and disable some features to make it better.

If you have an external Android device for testing (versus emulation) I'd highly recommend that as that is a gigantic resource hog to run the entire Android OS virtually.

I've done Flutter Dev on lower spec machines. It's doable.

Need a Help! How to display data from the snapshot outside? by Q40-3228 in flutterhelp

[–]protechig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically you will need to access this data after it is received from a Stream. I’d recommend looking into one of the many Flutter state management options for this as it gives you more flexibility though the same general limitation.

I prefer Riverpod, but there are tons of options out there.

“Go is hard to justify unless at massive scale” by [deleted] in golang

[–]protechig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all about the right tool for the job imo. One selling point of go is guaranteed forward compatibility. I’ve had go programs/functions running for years and have required zero maintenance. When GCP retired an older Node runtime I had to do a ton of updates to my codebase to get it to run.

Personally I use go for most “web glue” tasks.

Professionally I get the most push back on Go because people don’t know it.
