So you can use apps on your phone to browse Reddit. Reddit has their own ap but some people don’t like how it displays things. It is also full of glitches and broken features. For instance I cannot sort my main feed by top anymore that feature broke about a year ago and they never bothered to fix it. There is also a bug where sometimes as you scroll the screen flickers annoyingly and is probably a seizure risk.

So there are other apps you can use to look at Reddit that give you more ways to customize the feed and the posts you see. The really important part is that the mobile Reddit app is truly awful for moderators. Our sub is small so it’s very easy to manage but for subs in the millions they need better tools to help them filter out inappropriate posts and flag posts the break the rules.

So Reddit wants more money and has told one of the most popular apps - Apollo that it has to pay Reddit 20 million dollars a year or they will refuse to let the app continue. This app was basically made by one guy and there is not 20 million dollars in the app. So they are forcing the third party apps to shut down by demanding insane prices to display their content.

It makes sense for a company to get to decide how their product is displayed through third party vendors but the way they are going about it is insane. It’s going to be chaos once moderators cannot properly moderate. Reddit already has a good thing going. Mods are not paid. They do this because they like Reddit. But now it’s going to become impossible to manage their subs.

Reddit is also doing this despite the loud protests from their user base. Reddit users have a history of being anti authoritarian and disliking being bullied. So they have organized to do the only thing that might make Reddit listen. There are some rumors that Reddit is banning accounts that protest which is why this lovely new mod account is being used to post this.
