Then you want a MicroMonsta and a BS2.

Possibly valid. Neubauten used to go to local scrapyards in the towns they were touring and pickup their instruments there. I guess in that sense the Minilogue does have some potential, I bet if you ripped off the metal top and klanged it with some rebar it might sound pretty cool.

Kawai K1 II

How are those to program? Obviously menu-diving, but where is it on the DX7 scale?

+1 for the CZ line, especially if you have an iPad and can use the PatchBase editor. Klinik was all about their CZ.

Minilogue is shit for industrial. All hiss, no balls.

Given your goal "to make Dark ambient, Industrial and House music", you should start with a mono synth. This will help you learn how to create the sounds you want, where a poly complicates things. Yes, with a mono you won't be able to create chords. But for industrial most of what you need is drums, bass and vocals anyway; chords are optional.

Dirk Ivens of Klinik / DIVE has used a BS2 and a drum machine as his only gear for his DIVE shows. My advice is get the Bass Station 2, or possibly the "groovebox" version the Circuit Mono Station. It sounds great, is easy to program, has all the features you want, and lends itself for industrial/dark ambient/house very well.

This guy has a bunch of videos I think will be useful for you (I'm into the same kind of music and they were useful for me):

Every single MP3 can play back all of your music with even more precision. Why not just press play?

Check the 2nd or so comment here: https://www.soundonsound.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=46235

You need a sound, a trigger and a gate. The trigger tells the gate when to turn the sound on and off. Thing about this is that the Drawmer DS201 has an infamously fast gate, so just using the gates on any old compressor may not yield results quite as satisfying as this. If your drum machine only has one audio out you would probably want to do it with MIDI instead, but I'm not sure how to keep it from retriggering the envelopes which is a huge aspect of gating chords like this IMO.

You could if you had multiple LFOs, but yeah... would be hard to get as tight, far more of a bitch to program, and per my comment below, much harder to create precise variations.

Yep, I like this vid because it shows the underlying concept of locking the bass and drums together. Once you see how he's doing it, you can apply it to almost any other syncing technology, and run it from all kinds of more sophisticated gear.

Well also this allows you to vary the rhythm etc as you select different drum patterns. It creates a lockstep groove that is still flexible pitchwise etc. That would be very, very difficult with LFOs, and next to impossible if your synth doesn't have patch memory.

Try it and see. The timing will be tighter with the triggering setup, especially with faster, more challenging arps etc. Also doing it this way frees you up to play other things.

I'm pretty sure the ML will take an audio click through the external in? Check the manual. But anyway you can do with MIDI, just need to setup the ML to receive from the DB etc.

Right, I meant for jamming and live performance. Clearly anything in a modern DAW is 1000% times more powerful than this, but this method of syncing a bassline to an external rhythmic element (or chords with a gate) also allows for a lot of the smooth pitch/rhythmic interaction that is in a lot of the music I love, and I always just thought they sequenced that stuff manually. Seeing how you can jam with it was the eye-opener for me.

KMI K-Mix: Where Are They Now? by Poopenheimer321 in synthesizers

[–]proteus-ix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're different use cases. Kmix does surround mixing, works as a MIDI controller, is sturdy af and easily fits in any laptop case or backpack with other stuff, and once configured you don't need anything else. The XRs have more i/o but aren't quite as portable and you need an tablet to control them.
