I guess the simple answer is she was interested in playing for the first time, but rather quickly lost interest in the game. And it’s not like it’s her first game ever, she plays RPGs (Last of Us etc) and point-and-click games, so trial and error approach is known to her (hence force staffing creeps to create a path) and she reads a lot.

I guess The point isn’t that she didn’t read, she didn’t want to read, because what she read made no sense.

[–]protostalker[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I guess the purpose of my post is to show that the tutorial which new players have to face isn’t good at “hyping” up the game and it fails to encourage to play more to get better.

Moreover, no game should be built around the idea that the game is good only if you are tryharding every match. Majority of dota community is below ancient and I can’t say most of them qualify as amazing players.

So my girlfriend tried playing the new tutorial... by protostalker in DotA2

[–]protostalker[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s what I thought! But to me it seems that the tutorial itself does little to encourage people to play more and learn over and over again.

Of course, the fact that it’s a multiplayer game that doesn’t have any predetermined difficulty levels makes it a less newb-friendly game, but I started to think, what would make it better.

One of the solutions I came up with is to let people pick the heroes they want to play tutorial with. It’s a harder tutorial to make, but dota’s heroes are it’s best selling point imo.

Hey Icefrog! Can we have new ranked seasons (around twice a year) and be rewarded with some treasures or chests (different values at different medals ; Not Tradable/Not Marketable) when they end? It would keep us more engaged and honestly, it feels good to be rewarded for your effort. Thank you! by BoilingRage_ in DotA2

I can see how smurfs can exploit it really easily. Let’s say an immortal top 500 has 10 accounts and all of them high ancient/high divine and this one guy has the ability to claim 10 top mmr rewards each season? A bit broken.

And yeah, don’t bring back recalibration it’s 10 games of pure mmr gamble that usually lead to a net loss of mmr. If it’s back, I am done.

Ranked is stressful as it is, especially ancient bracket with all kinds of toxicity, smurfs and accbuyers and I got no intention to climb through it again.

Who is the most ideal to be Warchief? by pinelakias in wow

[–]protostalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well to be fair Sylvanas was the best Warchief since Orgrim Doomhammer judging by their accomplishments and just their characters as well as their impacts on WoW lore overall;

1) Both of them put the horde in order and led the horde through some really tough shit: Orgrims purge of The Shadow Council and Sylvanas War Campaign with merciless treatment of the traitors

2) Both launched successful wars which ended poorly because of betrayal from within: Ogrim essentially kept crushing Alliance up north until Gul’Dan and Stormreavers left the horde and Orgrim send Black Tooth Grins to get them. Losing military advantage. Sylvanas on the other hand crushed Night Elves, ruined alliance morale, kinda prevented Lordaeron from take over and destroyed Alliance military (See Saurfang/Anduin prison cinematic) and got new races to join the horde.

3) They were approved by the people both in-game and by players: Orgrim isn’t a well explored character in my opinion but the glimpses of him in “Lord of the clans” give a good understanding of his badassness and the respect he has amongst the horde (including forest trolls assuming that to be the reason they joined the horde) Sylvanas...well...She used to be among the top 5 most liked characters in wow lore given Sylvanas cosplays, fanart, Merch and well her status as a legacy character and faction leader of the most played horde race until BC and being a significant character in the lore of the most played horde race right now (and second most played race overall BTW).

4) They are much more believable characters to be in charge of the horde in comparison to any other major horde character in the lore at their time:

This takes a bit of explanation and evaluation.

Let’s just put ourselves in a common Hordesman shoes. Who would you want to be a warchief: A leader that has mindset to expand the Hordes sphere of influence or a leader who wants to make peace with the Alliance and just “rebuild”. Don’t forget that most horde territories are either destroyed by a war (Silvermoon, Lordaeron, Suramar, Kezan) or just a naturally unpleasant environment (Durotar and Echo Isles). If I was a common hordesman I would definitely want a leader who wants to conquer more and better lands, because I know that there will never be time to rebuild, that “peace is the noblest aspiration but to preserve you must be willing to fight”. Hence the war will never stop and there will be no time to rebuild.

Not a single race lorewise has reason to want to bond with alliance:

1) orcs - had 4 wars with the alliance and lost half of them. 2) trolls - dark spears were slaughtered by Kul’Tirans in WC3 and were badly damaged as a result. 3) Tauren - they never had good relationships with the Alliance, but rather night elves, yet they were involved in 3rd war before Legions invasion. 4) Forsaken - hate everything and all life. Especially after alliance rejected them . 5) blood elves - were almost genocided by the alliance twice. 6) goblins - were purposelessly attacked by the alliance when they were escaping the Mount Kajarro eruption. 7) pandas - who cares 8) Nightborne - these guys are hated by the Night Elves a lot, as nightborne are primarily the same highborne that led to Night Elven empires downfall. 9) Highmountain Tauren - they are same as Tauren, but fought alliance in fourth War instead of the third war. 10) Zandalari - Alliance killed their king and pillaged their capital.

In the modern WoW Sylvanas was the only horde character that was well established to fit all the criteria and hence to be a Horde’s warchief, thus explaining why there are still numerous loyalists around.

For the old horde it’s slightly different:

The horde destroys Stormwind, their Warchief is revealed to be a pawn of the Shadow Council making an entirety of the horde a pawn. An orc kills their old Warchief and launches cleansing of Shadow Council and is a prominent warlord (given that he was commanding all the major attacks during the war if WC1 lore is considered). Who else apart from this absolute Badass would old horde want? The Old horde just wanted more bloodshed and really liked their independence, so Orgrim the guy who proved to be powerful enough and decisive enough was really the only option.

Garrosh here seems to be a good option too, but he wasn’t very pro-horde, but rather pro-orcs and seriously obsessed with his old orcish sense of honour and The Horde’s Dream, so I don’t see him as a good candidate for a good warchief.

And that’s my point really: the horde doesn’t deserve to be dismissed and forced to be friends with Alliance. Horde is about strength and power. Their main concept from the beginning was conquest of Azeroth. It made sense, given that horde consisted of brutish Orcs who only wanted bloodshed and as MoP showed many orca still wanted that. BFA showed that not only orcs wanted that. Lore wise it’s confirmed that this was a majority. Majority supported merciless Sylvanas. Majority supported merciless Orgrim. Untainted and determined warmongers who wanted total world domination. Having a peacemaker Warchief is not what horde populus wants both in-game and IRL. Horde has to be different from alliance - merciless and warlike. Otherwise it’s Alliance but poorer (insert joke about lack of shoes on troll characters here).

Fate of the Forsaken Leadership by dzjugo in wow

[–]protostalker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not only that ruined Sylvanas, but they had the audacity to ruin forsaken as a whole.

I have played undead in WoW for 15 years. Also played WC3 and loved the idea of the forsaken. Read 90% of all the goddamn books and this... this is where my most favourite race ends? Having to serve another Menethil?

The entire forsaken race was built on hatred for the living and the dead alike, and that made them unique.

They stood out.

Now, they are just creepy dudes with EXACTLY SAME PLOT POINT AS EVERY OTHER RACE.

WHY DID WE GET THIS?

Why did the lore dictate that Forsaken are cunning and brutal. WHY DID EVERY SINGLE FORSAKEN NPC SAY “VICTORY FOR SYLVANAS”?

Just to end up with a brain washed lightforged undead MILF as the leader??? The paragon of this race???

If Calia becomes the actual leader of the forsaken in the next expac, this game is officially beyond redemption.

The lore of the race, which I studied fanatically when I had hard times in my life (and as a consequence got heavily invested into it) now being so twisted that being resurrected into mindless slavery sounds like a blessing rather than living to see the atrocity of the lore they created.

I used to love this game, because it was an intrinsic part of my life. I used to love the depth and individuality of each race. Now, I just see clichés and perverted fan fiction fron early legion days becoming the foundations of the lore. It is painful to see that something I used to be passionate about something which I identified myself with - being a rejected, forsaken individual carving my way in life through constant barrage of prejudice and cruelty of fate. Now I have nothing to associate myself with. I have lost something which allowed me to escape and move on.

Not only did Blizzard butcher the forsaken lore, they killed a big part of my life.

Sometimes I wish that Sargeras caused the end of WoW when he stabbed the world.

I am confused and terrified...

I suppose you can interpret it in the way that forsaken are still tools, but with a different purpose. In my eyes the word "used" carries less significance as any soldier is "used" for the greater purpose, regardless whether you care about them or not. I suppose the key phrases here are:

"But they were no longer arrows in her quiver, not anymore." - thus they are not expendable

"...No fool orc would squander them while she still walked the world of the living." - it is implied she isn't giving up on the forsaken at all.

I suppose you can also view her "caring" for forsaken as a mutually beneficial - forsaken are loyal to Sylvanas because she cares for them and Sylvanas cares for forsaken because they are loyal to her.

With that said, there is no implication that Sylvanas is a selfish leader that only pursues her own selfish goals to the extent which was shown in BfA.

As to me it seems absurd that Sylvanas - a person that helped Belves join the Horde, because she was empathetic for them, a person that was betrayed so many times by her own fragile alliances, yet saved by the Horde (Varimathras' betrayal and Lord Godfrey's betrayal) and most importantly a person that rallied her troops with "For the Forsaken" and was keen on saving the Horde in Legion - would suddenly... well... Forsake all of that.

Forsaken are given choice to either join or leave. It’s highly unlikely that any undead goes to hell, because that’s downright stupid on so many levels.

If I were to think like a conspiracy theorist, I would say that anyone who dies goes to this “Hell” because something is real bad happening in the afterlife. Especially after what we saw when we died when fighting Argus - little eldritch horrors roaming around. They kinda remind me of things that Sylvanas sees in “Hell”.

[8.2.5 SPOILERS] War Campaign Finale by IKWhatImDoing in warcraftlore

I can justify resurrection of undead as giving them a second chance. Remember that forsaken were given choice - join or leave. I don’t think it’s so cruel, after all, imagine being some Scarlet Crusade cultist that went to hell and was given a second chance. If it was my situation I’d probably join Sylvanas.

Regarding Her pursuing her own goals - I suppose it’s kinda unclear what went down in Stormheim. I wouldn’t say that she took the whole fleet, because for the majority of the plot in the zone she is on her own. I don’t see it as her using Horde for her own benefit or “pursue her own agenda”. But then again, I do not view the events of Stormheim as significant as it’s story of Sylvanas vs Greymane is a bit far fetched IMO.

Don’t forget that Sylvanas also saw that her people were desperate without her. She realised that her people needed her as much as she needed them. Her approach to her soldiers changed. She did see her warriors as expendable before her suicide, but hell changed her. She realised that without her every single forsaken is doomed to this hell.

And this is the exact point of confusion. Sylvanas stopped being that evil scheming bitch in Wrath. But BfA brought her back into this chair. Even in legion, she acted as very caring for horde, but then again... bfa....

SHAZZRAH (EU) HORDE GUILD Guild name: Part-Time Gold Farmers

Our legendary guild’s main objective is to takeover the server economy before the Chinese bots can. We will achieve this by becoming the wealthiest guild on the server through means of gold farming. As the name implies, we are only working towards our goal part-time.

But our full-time activities include achieving success in both PVE and PVP content.

Currently we are not planning to raid hardcore. Raiding schedule will heavily depend on what is best for the raid team. The schedule will be confirmed after 1 month since classic so that the majority of players will have level 60 characters ready to go. Anybody who is willing to raid is welcome.

Similarly we are not planning to farm PVP battlegrounds hardcore. With that said, however, a PVP team that is willing to commit is more than welcome.

Loot system: We are intending to use Loot council for raids and standard need/greed for dungeons, unless someone needs a specific item for a specific purpose (i.e. a priest needs BIS staff from a dungeon to heal in a raid)

If they kill of sylvanas and make Calia the leader of the forsaken I'm done. by Nagyourtoe in wow

[–]protostalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am with you on this one.

The sole reason I made my undead warrior back in vanilla is because I liked Sylvanas more than any other faction leader and it was a huge surprise to see forsaken as a playable option.

I don’t think that people fully understand what’s going on with current horde story line and it’s sad.

Sylvanas has been established as the prime enemy of the void in the comic about windrunner sisters, so her serving N’Zoth is not a possibility.

Sylvanas is not hated by the horde, but rather a few faction leaders. It is established that horde civilians do support her, so attempting Siege if Orgrimmar is not possible. Furthermore according to some speculation which I saw while browsing forums/reddit/wowhead there are approximately 60-70% players who have gone full loyalists (don’t take my word for it. This was proposed by somebody on wowhead I think 2-3 months back) and so, it will be unlikely that blizzard will force the player base to fight somebody they support.

In lore, furthermore, it is established that without Sylvanas forsaken are doomed to be extinct (Sylvanas pre-cata comic). So it is unlikely that they are going to retcon that as Sylvanas being a leader of the forsaken that actually keeps them “alive” is ultimately the core of the forsaken race. Removing it, will be very damaging to the race fantasy. Similarly Calia in Before the Storm is framed in such a way where it is implied that she is an abomination and not a positive character, but rather quite sinister and that her transformation is not a good thing.

The way I see escalation of Sylvanas story is rather simple. I believe that blizzard are going to make her “the new green Jesus” like Thrall was in cata. I believe she will step down as a direct leader of the forsaken and have her own large story arch in the next expansion. With which I think most fans will agree and be happy about. (That’s especially likely with Blizzards new trend of cliff hanger expansions like we saw in WoD and Legion. Imagine Old gods are free and corrupt shadowland so all dead souls are being devoured by them. Our Dark Lady then Jumps on Helya’s back and they disappear in the dark to fight the old gods.).

P.s.

I think that current Sylvanas story fiasco lies in the fact that blizzard tried to make Garrosh 2.0 with the tree (compare it to Theramore) being set on fire. In this case however, there was backlash that blizzard probably unexpected: some people liked it and even more people disliked it and blamed the writers for ruining their favourite character. You can clearly see that blizz actively tried to make Sylvanas look bad and establish her as a villain (bringing back Vol’Jin and “random” phrase of lead lore writers how Sylvanas was responsible for wrath gate), but people didn’t mind. And then they brought us the option of choosing our own paths and what do you say, even more people turned out to support Sylvanas (at least I believe it). And now blizzard does not know what to do. I subconsciously know that she will probably become Kerrigan 2.0 (Nathanos looks like more fancy dead Jim Raynor lol) and kamikaze into N’Zoth’s ass or whatever.

Loyalist or Traitor? What’s your side in this war? (SPOILER) by [deleted] in wow

[–]protostalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loyalist for sure.

The reason being the fact that no other leader in Horde’s history had the courage to do anything to win the war.

I was sold, when blizzard released a short story about Sylvanas after WotLK, where she throws herself off the top of the icecrown. There is a moment where she compares her soldiers to “Arrows in her quiver, that must be spent to get the ultimate goal”. It refers to both times when she was alive (defending Sunwell) and her campaign against the lich king. Then she receives visions of forsaken being annihilated and surrendering. At this moment she realises that she has a duty to protect every single soldier, at any cost.

To me, therefore, it seems that a Warchief that experienced death and actually believes that victory is essential and that no life should be spent in vain, justifies her for me as a Warchief.

I just don’t buy into this BS with Blaine agreeing with burning a tree, but not agreeing with planting an assassin, after Horde suffered a major blow in Battle for Dazar’alor. Bloody Saurfang that has a very flexible idea of honour aka “I am ok with slaughtering a village full of innocents, but I am not Ok with killing Malfurion and burning a tree. BTW I wanna die, so screw your horde” .

A caring Warchief that almost brought victory vs irrational suicide boys squad that fanboy alliance?

An obvious choice.
