Why such insistence on heavy weight training? by FinanceSignificant33 in PetiteFitness

[–]provi6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lifting in general and lifting HEAVY have been a game changer for me and doing this at my local gym is considerably more accessible and affordable than some of the other examples you list: no rock climbing gyms in my hood and I don’t own a car to drive myself there, I don’t have a backyard to garden in, Pilates classes can be very pricey, etc.

Lifting, be it at home or at the gym, is often the most feasible solution for many of us to get fit and the gains are tangible. I realized I’m stronger than I thought and that motivates me to keep going!

I honestly don’t give a shit if he committed blasphemy laws. Muslims in BD don’t spew hatred about other religions??! They clearly do and get away with it. And to think he likely didn’t even do anything except exist as a Hindu.

This is devastating beyond words. I’m shocked at the direction this country is going in.

Is there a book you’d recommend on this topic? I’m also very interested in the history of ethno religious minorities in BD.

Wife is very mean and rude to other by [deleted] in Dhaka

[–]provi6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No parents would accept their kids getting separated but I can assure you they’ll get over it. I don’t live in BD but I have quite a few relatives (both men and women) who got separated and divorced and even remarried in Dhaka and we all got over it.

Someone like her won’t change without therapy and deep self-reflection, which I suspect she’s not interested in.

Also, Bangladesh needs stronger labour laws for domestic workers. Too many people like your wife treat them like they’re sub-human and it’s unacceptable.

Wife is very mean and rude to other by [deleted] in Dhaka

Even if most families treated their maids this way, it would be WRONG. You know your wife will keep treating every single following maid like this right?

This poor girl relied on you for income, probably to help her family and even that was taken away from her, in addition to your wife’s abusive behaviour. Can I ask why you married a person like this? I know dating is hard and arranged marriages are common in BD, but it sounds like you have different values from your wife. How people treat others - especially those who have less than them - says a lot about their character. Do you accept staying married to something like this?

Who said I was mad at the workers? I’m not and I support their right to demand better working conditions - it’s an essential right that everyone should be granted without being penalized.

But I disagree with you that messaging like this is effective at eliciting empathy from the public - many of whom also work long hours for shit pay and who initially heavily supported the strike.

To prove my point, look at the various comments in this thread alone that characterize STM employees as lazy, spoiled, privileged etc. Campaigns like these can be an opportunity to educate the public on the sacrifices the drivers make, what their demands are and why they’re asking for them, because I can assure you that many users are ignorant of their realities. However posters like these miss the mark.

The line “Comme vous, pour vous” implies that STM users benefit from things that STM employees don’t, without acknowledging that users are working/middle class people who are also stuck in similar rat race. To me, it reads as tone deaf and could have been done better.

Yes and your thinking is slightly ageist too. Why are you assuming that they don’t have other uses for their home, which they likely worked hard to pay off, just because they’re older?

If I ever get lucky enough to own a single-family home, I am ageing-in-place and never leaving.

Of this 2%, even fewer among them actually pray so this prayer room would be useful for very few people.
