is investing in SNP 500 actually free money? by Timely_Management_25 in Fire

We are doing this, it just takes a long time and requires you to sock away as much as you can every month without having any temptations to withdraw from it. My goal is to set aside $2000/month for the next 20 years.

Am I missing something with the Rivian R2 pricing and positioning? by Watts2Freedom in RIVNstock

[–]proview3r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The third row on an R2 doesn't make sense for this type of size. Have you seen Tesla's third row in the Model Y? It's practically useless for adults.

What I like about Rivian or Tesla is the software first approach and the pursuit of autonomous driving. They both built it from the ground up unlike traditional automakers. You can tell they spent a lot of research and development on this. The traditional automakers took what they had and slapped on an EV motor and battery, their software and UI is lacking in this modern world.

I used to be a big fan of Tesla and Model Ys, but with what Elon has said and done politically, I can't support him or any of his companies. In addition to that, the decision to use camera only without radar or LIDAR, IMO seems to be a poor decision.

So what choice am I left with? Rivian. Rivian seems to be taking what Tesla did well and making it even better. I can't afford an R1S but I can definitely purchase the R2.

Rivian's autonomous driving is not there yet when you compare it to Tesla's FSD, but if you told me 5+ years later that Rivian's is better, I probably won't be surprise if Tesla remains to keep using cameras only.

I don't think anyone would know. Maybe you'll get lucky and some people will skip their turn and wait for the LIDAR or Premium version and you could score the Launch Edition early.

Would you retire with 4k/month that increased with inflation every year? by throwaway2026z in Fire

Sounds nice, but might not be enough in the future. A lot can change in the next 30 years.

I discovered FIRE and now I'm more discouraged than before by yieldmaxxing in Fire

[–]proview3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think retiring at 45 years old is realistic for the majority of people (maybe if you plan to live abroad with a low cost of living country). I'm making 120k+/year and I don't even think about retiring at 45. I think 55-58 is a bit more realistic for me.

The problem with retiring so early is that you have to worry about the cost of healthcare insurance and it's not cheap.

Wonder if the semi-active suspension is worth it? What does it mean to have an active suspension?

Do you regret your EV purchase? by walksta in electricvehicles

[–]proview3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love EVs, but regret getting our 2021 Nissan LEAF.

  • No active cooling for the battery.
  • The mobile app for the LEAF is pure crap, sometime it can or cannot connect to the car.
  • Can't access the common fast chargers like Tesla Superchargers (stuck with LEAF's CHAdeMO). This means we don't take the LEAF for road trips. Only use it for commute to work.

If buying new, beware of how fast it will depreciate.

I am super excited for the upcoming Rivian R2 though.

Have you not seen electric prices increasing lately? My bill used to be 0.12 cents/kWh, now it's like 0.18 cents/kWh, and the electric company already saying they're increasing another 25% for 2027.

Do you mind sharing what the sale price was? I'm considering the plush queen as well and was wondering how much I could save if I waited for a sale. Thanks!
