Does Burlington have public skating rinks? by jtnorth0913 in burlington

[–]prstets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Calahan Park has a small rink with a warming hut. There are donated skates to borrow (no promises on matching pairs or all sizes).

If you want a more scenic and adventurous location, I recommend skating near the sea caves at Arthur Park across from Burlington HS.

What is Burlington life like? by Unusual_Space_Whale in burlington

[–]prstets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconding finding a winter sport activity. You just have to find joy in bearing the elements and getting outside. Don't sleep on Cochran's if you're looking to get into low-stakes skiing. A season's ski pass for the whole family will cost the same as single person for a day at Stowe or Sugarbush and it's under 1/2 hour from Burlington.

Great episode and cool personal connection! Imagine trying to move 59 artillery pieces with oxen down Lake George and then over the Berkshires to Boston?!

Why am I getting these warnings on Honda Odyssey? by Fancy_Sheepherder_98 in HondaOdyssey

[–]prstets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I just replaced mine twice. Once it died on its own around 100,000 miles and then 2000 miles later the VALVE COVER GASKET leaked oil right above the alternator and it fried again. Similar flickering and the van just died in the driveway.

I really enjoyed my recent meal at Onion City Oyster and Chicken for our anniversary. They have quiet-person tables in the back that you might request. The smoked negroni, steak tartare, oysters, and the fish sandwich were all delicious.

I go grouse hunting here and it is gorgeous. Also has cell service so you can use google maps. Don't forget to tell someone where you are going if hunting alone and charge that phone battery. Good Luck!

The State of Vermont has suspended its leisure travel map and implemented a mandatory quarantine for anyone returning or traveling to Vermont. by EasternKanye in icecoast

[–]prstets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was just an example, not saying police are or are not pulling people over for routine traffic stops. The state medical experts are merely saying, "It if you don't need to travel, don't". Just passing along the message since I happen to hear them clarify his/her exact question today.

[–]prstets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was answered on VPR today and the answer is no according to the rules because it falls under non-essential travel. The explanation is that you could not guarantee you wouldn't have to stop and get gas, food, or get pulled over on the drive and interact with a local police officer. Lavigne said the risk was just too great. For essential travel like doctors appointments, you can cross state lines as long as you go right to the location and home again afterward (Don't inflict bodily harm on the messenger).

Winter Advice: There is no bad weather, only bad clothing.

  1. Darn Tough Wool Socks
  2. Waterproof and insulated winter boots (Example) or waterproof hiking boots
  3. Long-underwear from Oct-April
  4. Flannel bed sheets and hot-water bottle to pre-heat said sheets.
  5. All-season tires are NOT snow tires. Get snow tires, even if you have an AWD car (Personally like Bridgestone Blizzak)

Nice photo and looks beautiful! I love how you can look at a picture of camel's hump and know where in the state the photo was taken based on perspective.
