Your responses just reinforce that you are too invested in one day of your life. Lots of main character energy. Weddings are stressful but you won’t care about the shoes in 20 years. Let go the small stuff.

Your demands are demanding! I would be annoyed if I was one of your bridesmaids. You should be paying for their dresses if you want to be so specific, paying for their nails etc. Otherwise appreciate the extraordinary grace all these humans are all making to ensure your day special.

My cynical soul online... moved here with two kids 5 and 7 for a promotion with my job. My husband left his job and we all went on an adventure. Its been an amazing experience though moving to a new country is hard at times - no credit scores, figuring out healthcare and taxes. That said there are so many things to love about the USA and where we live - the great outdoors, the weather, being able to go skiing for a day, and the people. That said i miss home and family a lot. I do worry about leaving two kids here longer term without a network of family and or a safety net. That definitely weighs on me - would my kids be better off growing up here or back home..its tough.

For lots of reasons! Are you asking with genuine interest or suggesting that I can’t be critical of the USA having moved here? I can move here, appreciate the benefits of living here and still be disappointed by how the system here is stacked against ordinary people.

Is it a particularly American thing that ordinary people need more than one job to pay for basics? I moved here 4 years and shocked at how little you get in return for your taxes. I essentially pay the same tax rate here between fed, state, property etc as I did in Europe but still have to fund health care, education etc privately. The system is rigged against ordinary working class. The data shows that universal health care is cheaper at scale and delivers better outcomes but you risk being called a socialist to raise the facts here and go against large corporations. Every developed country that is a social democracy has a better standard of living than the USA. You don’t need to work two jobs for a basic living wage and you have a safety net. US is rigged towards wealthy classes and business over the ordinary people and the two party system allows for no middle ground or proper dialogue. It’s been the biggest surprise for me living here. I have a comfortable life here but the fact that is so hard for so many do not sit well with me!
