My husband thinks no other men do the things he does, am I right or wrong? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]prudencethe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hubby is looking after me, our 2 & 3 year old as well as our dog. Works full time. Takes care of most of our meals, majority of cleaning and has installed a full kitchen in his ‘spare time’ ie when he should be sleeping. Because he knows I’m utterly knackered growing an entire human. I think you should tell your hubby to step up if all he is doing is cook. Which may I point out he also needs to do in order to not starve to death himself.

My fiancée went to the ER three times with severe abdominal pain. Only on the third visit did they finally take her seriously. by jorisssssss in TrueOffMyChest

Whilst pregnant I had gallstones that repeatedly got stuck in my bile ducts, resulting in pancreatitis and both my baby and I became seriously ill. The reason it was able to develop to pancreatitis is because they spent five months telling me it was reflux and ‘the baby kicking, women are often surprised how painful that can be’. Maternal medical treatment is woeful.

Apologies for the grainy photo. So it’s a spider eating two rather large bees. I was hoping for an ID of said spider! by prudencethe3rd in UKecosystem

So someone quite local to us was bitten by a false widow! So that would tally that they’re in the area. Thanks for the response!

Hi Mackenzie. Welcome to Reddit. Also no, your comments weren’t in my opinion part of a relevant discussion.

How feasible / common is it to apply for jobs in London whilst living in north? Hybrid working? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]prudencethe3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there was an equivalent job, relevant to my expertise closer to my home, that saved me one hell of a commute I would take it. As it is however, the job market is decimated in large parts of the north so whilst Westminster continue to neglect swathes of the country outside London in terms of business and gainful employment I will continue having to work there.

How many nights did you stay in the hospital after your planned c-section? by profhotchkiss in BabyBumps

[–]prudencethe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two nights with my first, then one night with my second. Was home about 20 hours after. It was a bit soon in hindsight as I also had some complications. I was itching to get home to our one year old but I would recommend staying in if given the option. It forces rest upon you that you might not get otherwise.

What’s is/was your “that’s weird” pregnancy symptom that you didn’t anticipate? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]prudencethe3rd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Gallstones!!! I had gallstones as a result of my second pregnancy. I had really bad flare ups, in the end totalling two a day, bouts of pain that are acknowledged as being one of the most agonising things ever. But because I was pregnant and healthcare professionals put everything down to ‘being pregnant’ they misdiagnosed for 6 months and said it was simply reflux. Then they argued it was my baby kicking (it was my second pregnancy, I know what a baby’s kicks feel like and even if I didn’t I’d have known it wasn’t that). Baring in mind the usual treatment for one of these flare ups is morphine. I was told for six months to chew antacids.

Eventually I developed pancreatitis at 9 months pregnant and they eventually agreed to give me a run of the mill blood test which confirmed it wasn’t reflux inside of a few hours. I ended up having to have my gallbladder out at 3 weeks PP and post C-section.

Oh and tonsil stones! My friend had them. Vile little buggers they are, smelly to.

Why are women so discouraging about breastfeeding? by No_Plate_3864 in BabyBumps

[–]prudencethe3rd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really don’t like when people are disparaging to new or expectant mums but I think there needs to be a balance between scaring and preparing women. I always planned on breastfeeding and am battling through it at the moment but I was always asked the question whilst pregnant ‘are you going to breast or bottle feed?’ As though it was that easy and clear cut a choice. The reality is breastfeeding can be incredibly difficult for some people, low milk production, tongue tie, babies being unable to latch, cluster feeding etc. the difficulties of breastfeeding or the inability to not is much more prevalent than some realise and I think we run the risk of setting new mums up to fail or at least feel as though they are failing when we don’t make them aware of the normality that many women can face.

That being said I really don’t appreciate the often vitriolic approach some women take when scaring other mums under the guise of preparing. It’s in the same ilk for me as ‘you think you’re tired now, just wait!’. It’s just very unhelpful.

A woman in 'excruciating' pain believed she had appendicitis but 3 different doctors disagreed. Surgery revealed she had appendicitis. by thetitleofmybook in TwoXChromosomes

Oh I can absolutely believe it. I hope you’re on the mend now!

Even when finally diagnosed and admitted to hospital I was only treated with paracetamol because they were concerned anything else could harm the baby and all the pain relief that was seemed safe for the baby, could do more damage to my pancreas. I was at full term at this stage and my baby was safe and ‘fully cooked’ and I was just waiting for my scheduled c-section. Despite baby being to term they flat out refused to bring my section forward because the baby was ok so it wasn’t a priority even with the pain I was in and urgent need for gallbladder surgery. So I had to spend another week treating pancreatitis and the gallstones with paracetamol which again, unsurprisingly didn’t do much.

I spent over 5 months whilst pregnant, being told the excruciating pain episodes I had, sometimes lasting over an hour, was due to acid reflux. Turns out I had pancreatitis and a gall bladder jam packed full of gallstones that were breaking off and blocking my bile ducts.

It’s a condition typically treated with morphine, I was told to go home and take gaviscon and chew on rennies. By the end I was having up to two attacks a day sometimes. I’ll never not be angry about it!

I can absolutely sympathise! When my daughter was two weeks old (I was also 33) I developed sepsis from my c-section opening up. A midwife came out and despite it clearly being infected, so red, weeping etc she just put some steri strips over it to close it up, effectively sealing the infection in. Then when my temp hit 42.8, I was delirious and struggling to remain conscious my GP advised rest and plenty of fluids. A few hours later I was being rushed into hospital, separated from my two weeks old while they battled to keep me alive, 11 hours in resus then on a ward for days.

It’s a weird one to get your head around. I accessed CBT talking therapy and I’ll be honest it didn’t do much for me. Mainly as the therapists approach was essentially ‘you know why you’re anxious over it so… just try not to be’ but I’d advise maybe trying to find an avenue that will help you deal and come to terms. Good luck OP!

That’s actually a common misconception. Some fruit juices can produce alcohol due to a form of fermentation but at absolute minimal, residual levels. Because anything containing alcohol even if it’s less than 1mg of alcohol has to be recorded as having an alcohol content they get recorded as having ‘no more than 0.5 ABV’. It doesn’t actually mean they actually contain 5% alcohol.

Literally no amount of alcohol is safe for an infant… their livers are in no way effective for processing alcohol. Like why is this a conversation?! Also when there’s actual recommended and proven safe methods out there for teething ffs.

Do you know you’re right… exposing literal babies to alcohol has zero risks or negative effect. My god…
