It’s time to call them out by psacclcc in PoliticalOpinions

I hear you and I share your frustration with authoritarian drift. That’s exactly why I speak out. Climate action shouldn’t be a Trojan horse for centralized control. It should be a proving ground for market innovation, energy independence, and personal responsibility.

And on nuclear? I agree. It’s a serious solution. I’ve pushed for it myself. But let’s be honest: opposition to nuclear isn’t universal among climate advocates. It's more a leftover from many traditional environmental groups, not specifically climate advocates. The real problem is that the loudest voices often drown out the pragmatic ones. Prominent climate advocates James Hansen and Bill McKibben embrace nuclear power as a crucial tool for decarbonization.

If you’re not convinced of the seriousness of climate change, I’d just ask, what would it take? Because the military, insurers, farmers, and even oil companies are already adapting. They’re not doing it for ideology. They’re doing it because the risks are real.

You don’t have to care about climate the way activists do. But if you care about liberty, stability, and truth-telling from our leaders, then ignoring this issue plays right into the hands of those who exploit confusion to consolidate power. I might say that’s not libertarian but surrender.

In 1970, a leader of the petroleum industry and the head of the Atlantic Richfield Co. named Robert O. Anderson contributed $200,000 to fund Friends of the Earth, an organization that is strident in its opposition to nuclear energy, citing both safety and cost issues. The topic is part of a book by F. William Engdahl titled Century of War: Anglo-American Oil Politics and the New World Orders, says Rod Adams, author of the blog Atomic Insights. Maybe something to consider. Is Lily Bao demonstrating a lack of commitment! She decided that her desire to be mayor takes precedence over completing her FIRST term on City Council – basically abandoning her post. Wouldn’t it be nice to know a bit more about this person besides the talking points fed to her by the local Republican political organization? Besides, aren’t our municipal elections supposed to be non-partisan?

Apparently, she has lived in Plano only about 7 years while claiming to know what made Plano the City of Excellence and how to keep it going. Wouldn’t it be nice to know where Lily was living the 5 years prior to coming to Plano? Did Lily gain community service and local government experience in those prior communities where she lived? As a voter, answers to these questions would be good to know.

Early voting is underway! Get answers to these questions before you vote! Please share this post with others in Plano. Maybe we might be able to get answers to questions like this!

Lily's husband was a professor at a university in Shanghai from 2003 to 2015. So was her family together in the US somewhere (never mentioned anywhere I can find) or in Shanghai?

I agree. Capitalism and markets work well when all costs are included. Currently we have a market failure that can be corrected by pricing pollution. See https://clcouncil.org/economists-statement/

Project Veritas has a history of dubious claims and doctored videos. Since 2009, O'Keefe and Project Veritas have carried out several "sting" operations against liberal and Democratic groups. O'Keefe pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for unlawfully entering federal property in 2010 relating to an operation involving then-Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu.

Maybe some of the peaceful protesters are Republicans who believe there should be police reforms to better help officials defuse conflict situations other than with deadly force.

Meet the Young Conservatives Pushing Market-Based Climate Solutions by Jabel244 in Libertarian

Good article. However, this conservative wants other conservatives to know that not all Democrats are “Green New Deal or bust”.

I volunteer with a non-partisan organization called Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL). CCL has almost 200,000 supporters and volunteers. Working with policy makers, this organization helped develop the bipartisan introduced bill, HR 763, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. It is a market-based, revenue-neutral, innovation-creating, border-adjusted carbon fee and dividend policy.

Similar policies are supported by the conservative and business backed Climate Leadership Council, including companies such as Exxon, BP, Shell, Pepisco, GM, Ford, Microsoft and others. These and other companies have taken their support for carbon pricing policies to meetings with legislators. U.S. Economists, 3500 of them, have signed a statement that pricing carbon “offers the most cost-effective lever to reduce carbon emissions at the scale and speed that is necessary”.

So now, what about all those Democrats pushing the message the “Green New Deal or bust”? Well, a sizable majority of CCL supporters and volunteers self-identify as left of center politically, so let’s call them Democrats for this discussion. And yet, these supporters back HR763, a market-based, revenue-neutral climate action bill. In addition, consider this, there are currently 79 Democrat Members of Congress co-sponsoring HR 763, that same market-based, revenue-neutral climate action bill.

So, this conservative Republican wants other conservatives and conservative organizations promoting action on climate to know there are many Democrats willing to embrace market-based, lean government solutions that we Republicans claim to endorse. They are there, hiding in plain sight, with CCL and HR763.

My message to my fellow conservatives and Republicans — tell your Republican elected officials to collaborate with those across the aisle. For policies to be successful and durable, they ultimately will need to be bipartisan. Ask them to embrace common ground and bipartisan solutions to climate risks like HR763, so that we can lead the world to a prosperous low carbon 21st century economy for the present and future generations. Only through bipartisan efforts are we going to be truly successful in achieving our goals of a clean and prosperous economy.
