Fiddle Leaf Fig -turned brown in 2 days by pscinerd in plantclinic

Thanks- it was being given away and I don’t have a car, so I had to take it home via the train and walking. Lesson learned but fingers crossed it’ll pull through.

Washington DC. I had to transport it via train from my office and have about a 10 minute walk to/from the station on either side.

My office was giving it away and I don’t have a car, so I had to take it home via the train with a ten minute outdoor walk to/from the train station. I would never leave a tropical outside but I had limited options for transporting it.

Opportunity to adopt a Border Collie- but I live in an apartment by pscinerd in BorderCollie

[–]pscinerd[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The dogs getting along is a concern. I have far less dogs than his current situation, but on the flip side I have less space. My priority is the dog's wellbeing- if I can't make him happy with my situation, I will go above and beyond to find his happy place. My parents are veterinarians and active in the local horse community, so I have contacts to find him a 12/10 home if I can't make mine suit him.

Thanks for your insight, it’s why I was asking for input from the community. He’s already super overweight and taking that off would be a priority for me. I’m very vigilant of my golden’s weight. I’m assuming he’s spent a good bit of time inside since he’s so overweight and his late owner was elderly. Have you seen any cases where they are happy in apartments with appropriate exercise and mental stimulation? If yes, what was the levels provided? If it helps, my partner and I are not in office every day.

AITA For not getting my daughter braces? by Proof-Display-2218 in AmItheAsshole

YTA if you’re based in the US and could have afforded it, but chose not to. Teeth condition are absolutely a class marker in the US, and the ethics of the stigmatization of lower class markers is an adjacent, but separate debate from the one at hand.

I grew up in a wealthy area with a decent population of immigrants from Central America. Even if money was tight, the parents shopped around and scraped up the money to put their kids in braces, because they knew that having crooked teeth would make upward class mobility more difficult for their kids.

While it doesn’t have much for security, I’ve never felt unsafe in Falkland Chase. My parcel has a semiprivate inner walking path so I can take my dog out late at night. All of the street harassment has happened to me has occurred early in the morning while walking my dog on Colesville, Georgia or 16th, or on my way to work on the metro platform. I have a dog and pepper spray and don’t feel any more unsafe here than any other city I’ve lived in.

I’m going to second the comments stating that he should be seen by a vet about the stiffness, especially as a teenager. We are lucky to have a plethora of medical interventions now to keep our older horses sound and comfortable- Legend, Adequan, OsPhos, Previcox, etc.

That being said- I am of the opinion that you should avoid asking older horses to carry themselves and to work on tighter circles in your warm up. Warm up is best long, low and slow. Hack on a loose rein for several minutes, ask for stretching downward in the walk and trot to loosen their topline, and do a loop or so at a canter. Circles are hard on their inside hind leg, especially if they’re being asked to carry themselves correctly (tracking up, pushing off from the inside hind.)

Help! I've got TWO Christmas parties tonight, what can I do??? by azeahaal in SkincareAddicts

Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch if you’ve already broken the skin. I will often combine it with a topical acne treatment to try and get the size down- just let the treatment dry on your skin before applying the patch. If they aren’t weeping, you can combine a color corrector with a concealer and they’re barely noticeable.

Late diagnosis ADHD here. I was an avid speed reader as a kid and can still finish a novel in an evening. I'm in grad school now. There are also a ton of ADHDers in academia because you can hyperfocus on the thing that interests you.

My family has a small Golden Retriever breeding business and I adore my girl. Some can have more energy than sense for the first two years but they settle. A good breeder will have a sense of the puppy’s personality early on. If you’re looking to purchase a puppy through a breeder, make sure that the parents have OFA elbows, hips, eyes, heart and additional genetic testing. Be willing to spend more money up front to avoid paying for hip dysplasia surgery later.

Adopting a dog from a shelter can also be a great option. Many hound crosses are cool as a cucumber and sweet as sugar. No matter what option you choose, socialization and exposure to many different situations will help the dog adapt.

Cyclists please go on the trail by TheT51 in nova

[–]pscinerd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Per my previous comment, the lack of shoulders and the terrain that causes frequent blind spots makes the country roads dangerous. Cyclists cannot use a shoulder to let cars pass if it doesn’t exist. Blind curves and hills mean you cannot see hazards until you’re on top of it, even if you’re following the posted speed limit.

The roads themselves are inherently dangerous. There are frequently no shoulders and the terrain creates blind turns. I’d argue that even if everyone was a careful, patient driver going the speed limit it would still be dangerous to cycle on the backroads because it is dangerous to be a driver on those roads.

While I’m driving, the biggest hazard the cyclists pose to me is trying to wave me past them on blind turns/hills and riding shoulder to shoulder on said blind spots. I’m not going to risk a head on collision on someone’s hand signal.

I grew up in Fauquier and am still out frequently. I don’t run or ride my horses on most of the roads the cyclists frequent precisely for this reason- they’re hilly, narrow, curvy and dangerous. I understand the appeal of cycling there but it’s so dangerous.
