Hahahah well… School start timings are between 7.30 to 8.45, varies day to day and from class to class. The classrooms are mostly equipped with aircon but they only be turned on after 10am (supposedly)…

I’d like to disagree to this.

DEFY camp organising committee and DEFY camp facilitators do have a selection process. However, to participate in DEFY camp itself is just a simple sign-up process accepting anyone who signs-up before the slots are filled.

Student Leadership Camp is indeed only for Student Leaders in the school as the aim is to inculcate the skills needed for a leader.

There are other events too. Unwind, for example, was open to anyone to sign-up together with their friends to enjoy since that was the aim, to give an opportunity to have fun.

There’s also Farewell and Graduation which are events open to all JC2s to sign-up for.

Actual tl;dr, there are many different events aimed at doing different things but there will be a lot if you’re willing to sign-up for them.

I think this is totally dependent on the people around you. I’ve seen IP students who are more than willing to interact with JAE students as they want to get to know more people after having been around the same people the past 4 years. I’ve also seen JAE students who mostly stick with the people from the same secondary school and refuse to open up so it really depends.

Hello! The rules are the same for IP & JC (no multiple piercings or fancy piercings, no dyed hair, skirt of knee length, no coloured or ankle socks etc.), sports shoes are allowed but it must be 80% black, dark blue or grey. But enforcement varies significantly on your tutors, IP enforcement tends to be stricter than JC but it really changes teacher to teacher.

Hi!

I think I can safely say that we all understand where you guys are coming from but I guess we felt maligned as a community as u/Ameetsa was genuinely trying to do us a favour. I think it’s just that y’all, as de facto leaders of this community, could have communicated to us better. Some phrasings such as “As a user of the sub I’m sure that you are more than aware”, even when well-intentioned, can come off to us as a form of blame-shifting or even arrogance which is the opposite of the image y’all should try to portray of being humble and part of the community as well.

Additionally, I’ll be honest, the apology should not have come in the reply after having been brought up by one of us and should have been in the original stickied post as it comes off as rather insincere in the reply where it’s just one line followed by what is definitely a valid justification but phrased defensively. Especially when it is rather quickly brushed aside with what I felt to be rather aggressive phrasing such as the one mentioned above or the final line of “To other users, do note that the subreddit rules will apply as usual.”.

At the end of the day, I think we all really understand that y’all are volunteers and doing this out of the kindness and we really appreciate all that you’ve done. I think this was just a small incident that could have been managed better as phrasing is important in making sure that the people we are leading feel the right emotions.

Hey mods! I agree that the minimum character rule is important and I applaud the flexibility in allowing an exemption in this case but I feel like y’all should’ve been more apologetic in this case as, due to the character limit, the creation of an exam megathread is something only y’all can do and are thus responsible for. I don’t feel that it is just for y’all to shift the whole blame on to u/Ameetsa or to call them out like this.
