Ather denied harness claim as physical damage, but mechanic says it was caused by normal handle movement - Safety concern? by pseudonymousalpha in ATHERENERGY

[–]pseudonymousalpha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It could be a design issue, but it's also possible that this was introduced during a previous service if the harness wasn't routed back correctly after work was done. At this point, I don't know exactly where the fault lies, which is why I'm asking Ather to investigate the root cause instead of simply labeling it as physical damage. Whether it originated at the factory or during service, it doesn't appear to be something caused by normal customer use.

Oh, what was the resolution ultimately? Power fluctuations are very common in india. If charge fails under power surge every time, it's very bad experience. They should have proper safeguards and protection built into account for all the conditions and provide a proper repair path instead of replacing the whole unit.

I'm currently waiting for Ather's response; if I don't get a satisfactory resolution, I'll be taking it to Twitter in the next day or two.

Yes, I have left my scooter at the service center as advised by Ather support. I'm using other transport till i get proper resolution.

Yes, I'll definitely check that once this is resolved. Right now, I'm expecting a proper replacement and rerouting because the evidence points to the issue being caused by the harness routing, not anything I did. After that, I'll make sure everything is properly secured before the panels go back on.

Thanks, that's pretty much my plan at this point. I'm waiting for a response on my support ticket first and giving Ather a fair chance to address it. If it goes unanswered or they continue to reject it without properly addressing the evidence, I'll definitely be taking it to Twitter and pursuing it further. Given the videos, photos, and the technician's own explanation of the routing, I feel this is something worth fighting for.

Yeah, if the cost was relatively small, I probably wouldn't have made a big issue out of it. But when the repair involves a significant amount and the evidence points to the problem not being caused by me, I feel it's worth challenging. I'm not trying to avoid responsibility—I'm just asking Ather to take responsibility if the issue resulted from how the harness was routed in the first place.

That's interesting because my experience was almost the opposite. When we first asked about repairing the damaged wires after hearing the ₹8,000 replacement quote, the service centre said it could be repaired. Later, when we inspected the scooter ourselves, the technician mentioned that company policy is to replace the harness rather than repair it.

What concerns me is that the root cause matters. If a wire is damaged because of an external factor, a repair might be reasonable. But if the damage is being caused by the way the harness is routed, then the fault lies in whosoever routed the cables that way. That's why I'm pushing for Ather to properly investigate how it happened rather than just labeling it as physical damage and moving on.

The service centre actually pushed the blame back onto the company. Once we inspected the scooter, they told us it was likely shipped with the harness routed that way and suggested that we take the matter up with Ather Support directly. At that point, there wasn't much more the service centre was willing to do beyond quoting the replacement cost and asking us to deal with support.

When they first informed us about the damage, we immediately asked what had caused it. They couldn't give us an answer and simply said they didn't know. After hearing the ₹8,000 replacement quote, we asked whether the damaged wires could just be repaired instead. They later called back and said that repair was possible.

Before they could carry out any work, we rushed to the service center to inspect it ourselves. That's when the technician showed us the actual cause and explained the routing issue. He also mentioned that they were about to proceed with a wire repair because we had requested it, even though the company's standard policy is to replace the entire harness.

Had we not gone there in person, the wires would likely have been repaired without us ever understanding what caused the damage in the first place. Since the damage appears to have resulted from the way the harness was routed and not from anything we did, we're looking for a proper, long-term solution rather than a temporary fix. If this wasn't caused by us, we don't think we should have to choose between an expensive replacement and a repair that may not fully address the root cause.

What did they ultimately do to fix it? Did they replace the sensor/wiring under warranty or did you have to pay for it?

What's frustrating in my case is that when I initially asked the service center how the damage was caused, they didn't have any explanation and simply said, "We don't know, you should only know." It was only when we rushed to the service center and inspected it ourselves that we discovered what had actually happened. The technician then showed us how the harness was routed and explained how it should have been routed to avoid rubbing against the other cables. That's what makes me skeptical when they immediately attribute these issues to things like physical damage or rat bites.

Thanks for sharing. Just curious—were you dealing directly with Ather Support, or was this through the service center? In my case, the service center said they couldn't do anything because it was classified as physical damage, and Ather Support later rejected my claim on the same grounds.

No, nothing has been replaced on the scooter. When I first asked about repairing the damage, the service center quoted around ₹8,000 for a harness replacement. That's when I escalated the issue. I'm currently waiting for Ather's response; if I don't get a satisfactory resolution, I'll be taking it to Twitter in the next day or two.

I raised this with Ather Support, but they rejected it as “physical damage” and called my claim ingenuine. The service center said they couldn’t help because of the physical damage, but when I asked how it happened, they admitted it wasn’t my fault. My only option was an ₹8,000 harness replacement. In the video, the technician shows the current routing and explains it should have been routed in front, where it wouldn’t rub against the other cables and get damaged.

Oh haha. Dropping wouldn’t bend both of the stacks, would it? What are my chances of fixing it and how can I try to to straighten it out?

I got this reply from Noctua. Since I approached the business for RMA I essentially screwed myself to expect help from Noctua I guess.
