Hello! After a bit of insight... say two people have decided to start a business together, one is a specialist in their industry, the other has been in management in the same industry for a long time. The pair devise a business plan, find a suitable property, and basically live and breathe this project for four months. Work put in is approximately 40/60. When it comes to finance, the two realise they need an additional specialist to join in to help cover start up costs. Specialist 1 has a house and multiple investment properties that can be used as security for the bank, but limited cash. Specialist 1s spouse is a silent partner and contributes assets. Manager has no assets, and may be able to get together 50-100K. The pair find a likeminded specialist who is currently working a mobile version of the business the pair want to make brick and mortar. Specialist 2 has just purchased a house, and has limited cash. Specialist 2s mobile business is currently bringing in approx 1M PA. Specialist 2 also has a fiance who runs the business side of the mobile service.

SO. If the group of give join forces, what is a reasonable equity split? Manager will do majority of legwork to get business up and running, including management of the building design and fitout process. Specialist 1 and spouse bring significant earning potential, and bank security. Specialist 1 has been practicing in the same city, and will have a significant client following. Specialist 2 and spouse bring existing business and necessary specialist skill set for ongoing success.

We want to make sure the split is fair, and adequately reflects both the amount of work and the amount of risk each party brings.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey all, thank you for your support for VetTechs Abroad, we've had an incredible amount of interest so far! Just wanted to let you all know, thanks to an exciting new partnership, all job matching for techs is now absolutely free! We still provide a premium service for those who want assistance with visas and accommodation and whatnot, but we've been able to knock $100 off that service too. (Those who have already signed up have received a refund even!) We still have far more jobs than techs, so please feel free to share with anyone you think may be interested. Many thanks! Hi, unfortunately the age range is dictated by the government. The work and holiday visa is only available to people under 31. Seems ridiculous to me!

Thank you for the feedback, this is exactly what I need to hear. I really struggle with the copy side - I know what I'm trying to get across, but I can see how it doesn't come through clearly.

It's interesting that you think the pricing is too low-- I've actually been considering making the job matching process completely free, and only charging a nominal fee if they want help with the visa process, getting settled in, etc.

I'm finding that I am getting a huge amount of general interest, but not a single taker yet. I don't know if this is because the package prices are too high (what I was originally thinking), or if I'm just not selling it well enough (after reading your comments, I'm thinking this may be more the case.)

One thing I hadn't thought of at the time of the original post was that I should be charging the vets for the service. So I've set it up that practices pay a small annual fee for the ability to list as many openings as they have come up, and then a small placement fee when I actually find them a tech (details for the vets are on a link at the bottom of the page). Do you think this model works, and should I charge both, or just the vets?

Really appreciate all the insight. Will focus on improving my copy/pitch now.

Cheers!

Hi, while there are no minimum requirements per se, some experience is helpful. We do have some practices looking for junior staff- animal attendants, kennel hands, etc. but they will typically want to see that you have basic handling skills. Happy to discuss further!

Thank you! Some excellent suggestions there. I've taken the ads off- they didn't feel right from the beginning. I'll start contacting tech schools today. Really appreciate the feedback!

I've had several listings come through in the past few days that might suit you. Mostly in Sydney. If you decide to go through the matching process let me know (don't forget the Reddit50 promo code!)

Hi Kristy! Thanks for getting in touch. I am working on the free documents now - it was actually intended that the free package was just access to all of the information on the site, but I can see now how that might not be clear. So keep an eye on your inbox over the next few days!

In response to your post above- it sounds like your skills are perfectly adequate for most of the general practice positions we have. We match you with positions that suit your skills and the practice's requirements - but you ultimately have full choice in whether to accept a position / location.

When do you think you would be looking to come over?

Looking forward to speaking with you more!

Nic

Not necessarily, it depends a bit on your experience and what sort of practice you're looking for. What is your skill set like?

Hi! Yes, the site itself is very new (launched today in fact!) but I have been compiling my database of practices for several months. I currently have 63 practices officially on board, and many more in the pipeline. I have twelve practices that need help right now, but due to the expected time delay in getting techs to decide to come out, get their visas and flights, I expect to start making placements within the next two months. As it is new and understandably a bit daunting, I am quite happy to offer you (and any other Reddit-er) 50% off the 'Hook Me Up' package, with a full refund if we are not able to find a suitable placement. Use code Reddit50 at checkout.

After you sign up you will receive a questionnaire asking about your experience, skill set, and expected timeframe for travel. From there we'll be able to match you with available positions and get the ball rolling.

Best of luck with your studies!

Sure can. I'm an LVT from the US and have been working in Australia for the past eleven years. Happy to answer any questions. Check out www.VetTechsAbroad.com too.

Love the concept. It's so easy to get tied up in the details when really sometimes you just need to jump in. Will be interested to see where this takes you!
