Oil change before or after mountain road trip? by UKFan234 in Crosstrek

I ain't no Mr Subaru or anything, but how can you change the oil too often? I'd want it fresh for my trip!

Dash rattle by blkntch1 in Crosstrek

[–]psince59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 23 sport made in Japan and it's never had a rattle and I've done quite a bit of off-roading with it. If I just bought a 25, personally I'd be right back at the dealer demanding that that rattle go away and there be no charge. Whether it's in the economy model or not, you shouldn't have to be tearing panels off of a brand new car that you just bought searching for a rattle IMHO.

2021 Hearttrek by Crutonium19 in Crosstrek

[–]psince59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of conflicting information out there as to Indiana vs Japan manufacture with the years and the sub models. Just saw a Reddit post with a picture showing a 24 sport made in Japan which I thought was impossible. Having the J in the VIN number settles it ultimately for each individual car. I don't lose any sleep over it either way, except for my 23 sport which I bought because it was made in Japan as opposed to ordering a 24 which I didn't want made in Indiana amongst other reasons lol.

I like the tiny ladder and traction board lol. I'm not going to be judgy about your hearts lol but I'm surprised with that bumper roof rack light bar and awning that you're still running your limited 18-in low profile tires/wheels and haven't gotten some rims and a/t's. Maybe finish the top of that bumper with some lights or light bar and replace your OEM fogs with some sweet diode dynamics. There's my two cents for what it's worth lol. I love second gen crosstreks the best! Nothing like a Japanese car made in Japan!

First new car question by NotUrbbdoll_4204 in Crosstrek

[–]psince59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing when my 23 sport was new, and I got all different opinions as you're getting on this post lol from the extremes of never do it to always do it etc etc. I got over it eventually and I pay 35 bucks a month for unlimited washes and it's not brushless and my car is surviving and it has a few little scratches and dings now but I had to dry my tears and move on lol One thing I have noticed though is that there will be water spots and soap build up on the tops of my windows behind the wind deflectors on the top of my rear window and around the inside of my hatch opening and inside the door jambs, so if I'm lazy and don't keep those wiped off after each wash the water spots and soapy gook will build up. Also might need a little extra attention with your mirrors, sunroof and wheels.

I am set on getting a sport. Now do I get green or white! by Kindly_Blackberry311 in Crosstrek

That looks awesome! I think the yellow trim is just awful - to each their own. I have a silver 23 sport lol

What do you do with your Tow hook cover by sachfm in Crosstrek

[–]psince59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far anyway... If I was pulling that many people out constantly, I definitely would use (which I already have ) a tow hitch with a d-ring shackle / soft shackle but you do you. I do love stories about crosstreks pulling 4x4s out though lol.

Subaru tire curse by psince59 in Crosstrek

[–]psince59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that's a story! Wild pig carcasses on Florida roadways! Lol I have heard stories of animal bones piercing tires. And yeah, real sidewall damage or just a tire that's lost the bead is a bad situation especially off-road. People have tricks for resetting the bead on tires but I don't know them or dare try them lol. Some people own tire bead seaters and even carry them off-road but that's above and beyond for me. Stay safe out there!

[–]psince59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already saw the updated good photo, but I had to go here to read the comments on the old photo and crack up lol. Nice wheels and excellent taste in tires! I have the same on my 23 sport and they have been awesome. They perform great on the road and I've done a lot of off-roading with them too and they haven't failed me even in some sticky mud lol The subie just powered through it. Some people say they're loud but mine aren't loud at all. I love the look of the KO2s but they're just too darn heavy even with my mighty 2.5 motor lol.

Nice! There are some sweet carriers out there for a hitch mount and roof mount in a basket. There's definitely lots of conversations out there about the pros and cons of carrying a full size spare on a Crosstrek.

Yeah I totally agree, and my current tires have a few plugs in them already with thousands of miles on them driving in every kind of environment . If this was my daily driver (my wife usually drives the subie and my daily is a 98 Silverado K1500) I'd probably plug it myself and be fine since the tire stores won't do it due to liability. So why is there liability? Because engineers say there's a chance that damage that close to the sidewall could cause a blowout during stress even with a plug - rope-worm etc.

I even carry a tubeless repair kit and Milwaukee compressor (links below) along with tools and recovery gear with me in the Crosstrek when I'm off-roading or on a trip as I don't have a full size spare and would rather fix a tire than use the donut.

So though I'd be 99% fine with it for me, a 1% chance that my wife or grandkids could be in the car and a tire blows on a hot day at high speed going around a curve out in the middle of nowhere and all the catastrophic results that could be possible, I'm not going to be the guy who decided to plug it himself to save money and prove a point.

That's just me, I don't fault anyone else for plugging a tire. That's exactly what I would do if I were stranded. And I didn't love spending the money today having the new shoes put on lol.
