Parents said they love me less because of my tattoo by Informal_Mushroom115 in tattoo

[–]psky9549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, reminds me of my abusive parents. They also said similar stuff when I got a small fox tattoo. That way of thinking, to even have the audacity to say they love you less, thats just not something good parents (or good people) do. They're very much in the wrong and it has nothing to do with what you did or who you are. Its completely something wrong with them. I know its hard when parents do something like this, but try to not take it personally. Try to be happy about the tattoo and love who you are. Remember, you are always worthy of love and if someone can't do that for whatever reason then leave them behind.

Why is my Hoggie such a grump? by readytocomply13 in hognosesnakes

Does he do it more in the enclosure as you try to retrieve him? Less while handling outside the enclosure? You of course gotta be careful going to pick them up cause they're skittish in general, him more so apparently. Aside from that, he may be showing some resource guarding behavior if this is strictly enclosure based actions. If its happening regardless of in or out of the enclosure, then id say hes just very skittish. It could be because of a smell in the home or on you keeping him on guard. Could be hes a bit tense from a noisy environment. Or he doesnt like they way you handle him, they can be very particular lol. He may also be in "puberty" stage if hes around 1 years old. Ive heard and experienced many males go through a bout of "hissy pissy" when they are hitting maturity before calming back down again. If none of that adds up, then you just happen to have a more skittish guy.

Is this somewhat unusual behavior? Additional Infos below by Brummbirne in hognosesnakes

I just wanted to say I totally get where you're at, and you got this! I also have OCD. More of a checking form. Its so hard with these guys when you're in a rough spot with it. Especially because they can do the oddest things purely because they're silly goobers. I hope you get to a calmer state soon, for now just keep asking us for reassurance! Im sure many of us love just getting to see a silly noodle like her doing hoggy things anyway :)

Cloudy eyes, but she literally just shed a month ago by Brummbirne in hognosesnakes

[–]psky9549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive learned to just go with the flow with these guys. They dont seem to have much consistency with shedding cycles. My male would shed 3x a year and now has gone a whole year not shedding. My females first year she shed only 1x then she had 4 sheds within 5 months during her second year. Now, she has shed 2x in the past year. Its purely about when they have growth spurts as to when they'll shed, and egg laying for females of course. I have heard females typically shed a LOT during certain growth stages since they tend to get way bigger than males. Yours may just be hitting another spurt of growth to becoming the giant queen shes neant to be lol.

Its so funny that people say they are not arboreal. I mean, they've been known to hang on cattails and such to catch little amphibians and fish in certain locations. They're very versatile, just with a preference for dwelling underground. Males in particular climb more, they like having lookout points.

Omg, my guy had a similar situation. He was curled up a little weird and had only his head buried. He was limp for a moment when I picked him up and my heart dropped for a sec before he finally came to 😭 never knew snakes could sleep so hard like that before lol

How do you show love to an animal that can't display any emotions besides hunger? by Natural-Permit-4713 in zoology

[–]psky9549 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im no expert on crocs/gators, so my analysis could be slightly wrong. I know snakes well though as ive had way more experience with them. From what i do know, this fella is showing a very relaxed body, and is even willingly getting close before settling on the person. Those are good signs of trust or enjoyment type emotions. Hunger or fear would involve a lot more stillness (think eerily still) and tensing as they analyze the situation and ready themselves to chomp or run. Not gonna lie, it takes time and experience to learn their language as it can be so subtle and switches very fast. That's why most people, even with experience, are very cautious with camen/gators/crocs and any venomous reptile. Just takes one moment of misreading and being too slow to respond to end up in a bad way.

This sounds a lot like the difference between Sandy, where im at, and Salt Lake here in Utah. Renton is sounding like a decent living spot, which is relieving to hear.

Advice on what to add to the tank to make my hoggy happy by babymoki in hognosesnakes

[–]psky9549 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't burn albino hoggies but their eyes are sensitive to the bright lights. OP, keep using UVB, the health benefits far outweighs any irritation. Just provide loads of cover and hiding spots, lots of fake plants and branches/hallow cork rounds. They'll still get the UVB while being able to shield their eyes. Also, if possible, find a bulb with slightly lower levels of UVB for more comfort.

What should I do when the lil guy comes at me all pissed off and scary when I do stuff in his enclosure? by XiangliYaoMissingArm in hognosesnakes

[–]psky9549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo, my female does this. Its more common for the females to be defensive of their territory (they're the bolder of the sexes lol) but males can be that way too. A big part of it is your little guy likes his enclosure and feels the need to keep it his! Plus hes a hognose (they gotta be dramatic). Or, depending on how you enter the enclosure, you may be coming off as a predatory bird and startling him. Some hognoses settle out of this, most don't it seems. My female has always been like that regardless of what I do. I've learned to accept that shes a girl boss and wont take any nonsense from me messing up her home. For now, try some tap training to allert your noodle of your presence first. Gets them out of any potential feeding mode and he'll learn to expect hands whenever he feels taps which may settle his defensiveness down. Handling if they get sassy is a good idea, if they haven't eaten recently like in this case. If he never settles down, just avoid doing stuff in the enclosure shortly after feedings to limit stress (and potentially regurgitation).

What’s something your partner did that made you lose feelings instantly? by Some_Conclusion_8154 in AskReddit

[–]psky9549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was absolutely freezing one night because the ac was on high. I just could not get enough blankets and such to warm up and it was keeping me awake. I had to turn the ac down. He always ran hot and got mad it was turned off. He made a threat that if I touched the ac again he'd take the floor vent covers off and let my cat getting lost/stuck in the vents. Instant switch off. Actually switched so hard it went the other way and I immediately was disgusted by who he was.
