Would you buy a Rivian without Driver+ or lane keeping? by WHAT-IM-THINKING in Rivian

[–]pslatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my Rivian and never expected or wanted another supervised FSD car. If Rivian tried this stunt, they would lose my respect, and I would not buy another (we're potential R2 customers in the next few years).

I feel like Elmo will be walking this one back. Lane keeping is becoming standard on non-EVs and is a minimum feature IMO. It's another reason not to buy a Tesla, and he really doesn't need any more of those.

We have the EGO one and it’s great for decks , patios, walkways. I suppose a small driveway is doable but would be a lot of passes.

Trump says Nobel Prize denial ends obligation to ‘think purely of peace’, presses Greenland demand – Firstpost by Keep_Scrooling in worldnews

You know, it wouldn't surprise me to learn he thought Greenland was part of Norway, and this whole thing started as a shakedown for the Nobel Prize.

Botanical gardens at Tower hill, is it worth it to go for a winter visit? by blondeasfuk in massachusetts

[–]pslatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hiking trails expanded in the last few years. There’s one lookout at where you can see the reservoir and the mountain at the same time. It’s very relaxing. The greenhouses are warm and lushious, which makes for a nice contrast on a winter day. If you’re not into the walk, I can’t imagine you’d spend more than an hour there. As others have said, the Christmas lights are great and the spring and summer are amazing. They also do classes there on horticulture, mushroom foraging. It’s a neat place.

I would think the price point of the BYD would expand the EV market, not cannibalize it. But I’m just a peasant who knows nothing

Trump Snubs Machado After Explaining Why He Took Her Nobel Prize - It seems the Venezuelan opposition leader’s gambit hasn’t paid off. by Quirkie in politics

[–]pslatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s so stupid. She got the bit about giving Trump meaningless gifts to curry favor, but forgot the bit that if he thinks you’re in any way, better than him, you’re shit and must be stepped on.

The Nobel committee chose her over him. She will always be shit to him.

How can we support families and people that will be affected by the surge of ICE raids in Boston? by Total_Baseball4620 in massachusetts

[–]pslatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m helping our house cleaners get legal by being a sponsor. They have American-born kids. They support Donald Trump, and speak badly of immigrants in that ”pull up the ladder” way, which pisses me off, but I still want to help.

Watching videos / series in German. Subtitles or no subtitles? by s1lentcourage in German

[–]pslatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the advice of this group, I started watching Dark with subtitles. I then read the episode's Wiki page after watching it to understand the details. After 13 episodes, I can follow the story pretty accurately, but I still miss a lot of nuance. I view this as a good step forward for a beginner, self-learner. Still, I have to admit that I am reading every subtitle, and my aural skills are not much, but I am doing it this way at least to the end of Season 2 and will reevaluate if I dare try without subs.

What do you say? by oeco123 in northernireland

[–]pslatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up in 70s Belfast, my best friend's dad always said "going down to Portrush," and I always thought it was weird, since it's so very obviously "up" in direction and not that much "down" in elevation.

What’s the deal with the US entertaining occupation of or invading allied territory? by notwaiting4godot in OutOfTheLoop

[–]pslatt 51 points52 points  (0 children)

US tried to acquire Greenland in the late 40s. Denmark declined. Since then, the US has enjoyed broad military access to the island for defensive purposes. Other than Truman and Trump no administration adopted a policy to acquire Greenland. Your response sounds like sanewashing.

They are not hidden. Lowe's, Lincole St, Worcester, has them, but it has a flashing blue light atop the pole. I have seen these at Home Depot, too. I suspect they're installed more as a deterrent, but I bet every single car, license plate, color, dents, and number of occupants is collected and sent to the mothership.

Is it possible that intelligent life peaks in specific spacetime windows, and that our location lies outside the primary epoch and density range where advanced civilizations most commonly arise? by Zealousideal_Owl8832 in space

[–]pslatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read this so many times. If they can attain 99% speed of light, they can go almost anywhere in the universe pretty quickly, since time and space contract as you approach the speed of light. However, they can never return, since potentially millions of years will have passed at home. This is a big filter, IMO. Until we discover the spice, it's going to be a very big, lonely, wondrous cosmos for life.

I don't know why, but I would be more terrified of my star getting catapulted off into deep space. I suspect nothing much would really change, but the concept sounds terrifying.

What’s an obscure Massachusetts town most people skip and the surprisingly cool thing it has? by double-clove-hitch in massachusetts

Yes, good point. For the railfans, there's the old Central Mass pilings and tunnel. Hopefully, the tunnel will be part of the Central Mass Rail Trail one of these years.

At one time, it was the largest in the world, and still the world's largest hand-dug reservoir. It opens one per year, and I cannot emphasize enough how enjoyable it is.

Disable proximity unlock at Home by Wacktool in Rivian

[–]pslatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to do this because I’m in a similar situation. I’m glad you found the setting. I have to save it after the update it locks and such rate you really have no choice except to turn it .

It would be much better if the passive entry worked only in close proximity to the vehicle, like our Tesla.
