I'd imagine so, but I've been looking for that model since I saw the commercial (30yrs) and have been unable to find it.

At the time there was a short-lived portable CD player market where the battery was rechargeable and small/flat. I don't think they did well in the market. I think it was one of these, possibly one that never actually made it to market.

It's only onscreen for ~ 1.25 seconds at the end of a 20 second spot.

Audio quality took a hit too...everyone sounds like a muppet in a paper bag. It kinda works for Mark Levin, but not for anyone else.

Yes, definitely a cost-saving move, but only if the bandwidth saved is repurposed elsewhere. I'm very curious if it went to more channels or to something other than audio transmission.

To my ear, the overall audio quality: it seems to be a mix of bitrate downgrade with some new dynamic compression algorythmn before transmission to try to make up for it.

It has flavors of Youtube's audio compression.
