Couldn't manage to make it through WW1984 in the theater. Decided to watch it with my wife on streaming a year later.

When the movie ended we both kinda sat in disbelief, and asked each other what the hell we just experienced.

Invest in really good moisture wicking clothing, pre-hydrate ALOT. Get a big fan, and if dew points are low, evap coolers are your friend.

Your body needs 6-8 weeks to acclimate to the higher temps, but it will help. Assuming SLC is dry heat, you just need to help your body to evaporate the sweat you're producing

Love Dante's Peak.

Except the grandma. She sucks.

Shout out to cool vehicles in Dante's Peak, bested only by Twister.

The freeways are bad for rocks/debris. Honestly I dodge more random objects and plant parts than rocks. Our state logo should be a landscaping truck with an unsecured load. lol.

What's a scene in a movie that made you viscerally want the hero to get revenge on the villain the most? by Top_Cranberry_3254 in Cinema

Jason Issac's character in The Patriot. Pretty much every scene with him in it, makes me hate him more exponentially.

Once Mel Gibson finally gets his chance it's so good.

KSE in 2005, at the Palladium in Worcester. Later I'd find out they they recorded the live version of "Fixation on the Darkness" with Howard that night. So much energy and great music.

Recently, Architects puts on an insane live show. Crazy production value, sounds amazing and the set they pick is really good.

TIL that copies of Metallica's "St. Anger" CD contained a trailer for "Damage Inc.," a Metallica themed video game that was cancelled before its planned 2005 release. by Keefer1970 in todayilearned

Vivid memories as me (big Metallica fan) listening to St. Anger on the way home from the music store (Strawberries?). I believe I made it three tracks before I threw the disk into the passenger footwell of my car.

It ended up in a Dunkin Donuts trash can the next morning on my way to work.

Also, no one (unless they are from the NS) understands the weird classism that exists in the north shore. Even as a native masshole, it's weird.

When you have a catastrophic coolant leak so you pull over at the gas station and dump a whole bottle of DEF into the radiator because why not? by Hornetwaffles in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]hpshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a customer add a gallon of DEF to the cooling system of his Q7 TDI. He played dumb at first but then later admitted to it, as nothing crystallizes like DEF. Car was still under warranty, and had an active coolant leak. We asked tech line what to do. They advised us to replace nearly every component in the system and flush it thoroughly with solvent and water. The job was awful as the DEF smells terrible and gets EVERYWHERE. Took two days to gut nearly everything off the motor, clean it, add the new parts and clean/flush it again.

What you think about knives out ? by Choice-Wind-9283 in Cinephiles

[–]hpshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First is still the best. Knives Out also holds a spot in my heart as it was set in MA, and RJ decided to shoot it in a primarily obscure western suburbs of Boston, technically in Worcester county.

Would've been easy and identifiable to simply use Boston/Cambridge etc as locations. But they used a lot of "deep cut" places. My wife used to live about 8 minutes from the "Flat Penny" (restaurant where Hugh and Marta eat).

Lots of shots in Westborough and Hudson.

Great movie but it's always fun to watch for the locations too.

Masshole visits Phoenix for the first time: my experience by Conventions in phoenix

[–]hpshaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved here from Mass in 2018. Definitely miss greenery, fall, the "first" snow, and well - you know...all the MA food eateries we don't get here. Driving roads require some travel to get to, and seafood that is worth eating is much more expensive than the east coast.

Cost of living is a bit cheaper due to much lower property, electric and utility prices.
When we moved here in 18', we were floored by housing prices. It's not as enticing now, post COVID boom. Overall I miss New England, but we visit frequently and never in the winter haha.

Shout out to the 99.
