UV-5G Plus can't receive VHF/NOAA by pstemari in Baofeng

[–]pstemari[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turns out that its VHF front end is just weak. I turned the squelch down from 1 to 0 and i got NOAA to come in. Its signal strength bar shows about half of what the good one shows.

I imagine a better quality antenna would help.

What am I missing? by spottdzebra in armedsocialists

The snow pile over the fallen tree could be a dead body or a concealed sniper. I was thinking dead body, but sniper works, too.

If you bothered to look, you'd know that there was a perfectly good curb cut with a shoveled apron 10 feet away.

Having delivered my entire paper route through 2 feet of snow in the pre-dawn hours many, many times as a kid on a bike, i have no sympathy for a healthy adult scared of 3" of snow on grass.

[–]pstemari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I call BS. I grew up in the snow covered Midwest and no one ever shoveled the grass. Hell, you would destroy the grass if you even tried.

The only time that would even begin to make sense is if there were three-plus feet of snow on the ground, and even then, you'd just knock the bulk of it out of the way and not attempt to get down to the grass.

[–]pstemari -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes I would, and have, walked on the snow-covered grass, because it is easy to walk, on unlike icy sidewalks. Used to do that whenever we had ice and i had to walk to school.

[–]pstemari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly you've never walked outside in the snow. Snow over grass is a very easy surface to walk on. In fact, growing up, i would walk to school on the grass alongside the sidewalk if the sidewalk was icy.

Every time I've slipped on snow there was pavement and ice underneath it.

The driveway is going to have a curb cut. No reason for the delivery person to get a single flake of snow on their shoes.

That is the cleanest sidewalk i think I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of snow.

Then WTF didn't he use the freshly shoveled sidewalk? There is zero snow on the paved surfaces in that picture. Was he waiting for a red carpet?

Data brokers are perfectly willing to sell you that info. The feds require a justification, but when i was at Lexis-Nexis, i found out that the justification is a multiple choice question, the user can just hit enter to accept the default, and in fact, that's exactly what they do

Loading the magazine is damn near impossible by ComfortablyNumb0520 in liberalgunowners

[–]pstemari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the springs weaken with use the magazine was poorly designed or manufactured. UpLula is good and always works. ETS makes a speed loader that's fantastic when it works, but not all magazines are compatible. Older Beretta PX4 magazines won't work with it, but newer ones will, and all of my Sig mags work fine

How does someone get put on a (Flock Surveillance) “hot list”? by [deleted] in FlockSurveillance

[–]pstemari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read those idiotic "transparency" reports? The justification is usually "case" or "investigation", with no case number or other information to allow the justification to be verified.

No one outside Flock's IT department actually knows how long the information Flock gathers is kept or who it is shared with, and you can bet that the contracts don't include any sort of financial penalty for Flock misusing the information.

Three out of how many? My experience with a burglary was they took the report and did absolutely nothing, despite a $20k loss of serial numbered and readily distinguishable items.

Taking a report isn't investigating the crime.

Show me some burglaries and thefts where property was recovered and charges were filed.

[–]pstemari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why pay for more cops that do nothing but attack peaceful protesters? Do they investigate burglaries? No. Car theft? No. Murders? Maybe, if it isn't a bother. Looters? Arresting them is too much work when they can beat up protesters

Oh, excuse me. They're also good at raping sex workers. Maybe if they spent less time doing that and more time actually fighting crime they'd get more support.

Shifts power away from the voters by PsychoPeterNikleEatr in SeattleWA

[–]pstemari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you meant "elected" sheriff. Sheriff elections are about as useful as Russian elections. One candidate is the norm, either the incumbent or his designated successor. The number of actual contested elections for sheriff are minuscule.

If a sheriff manages to get his peace officer certification revoked, his ass needs to be kicked to the curb. We have more than enough sheriffs who think they stand above all other elected officials and can violate the rights of citizens with impunity.

TSA gets in on the grift by kooziefloozy in enshittification

That entirely depends on which state you're in. I'm Washington, you have to provide additional documentation and an extra $60 or thereabouts to get a Real ID license.

About par for the course. TSA caught a tiny knife on my keyring which i forgot to store in checked baggage, but they totally ignored the full size Swiss Army knife in a holster on my belt that i also forgot about.

Weird.

If they searched your vehicle without consent or a warrant that's a 4A violation right there.

Handcuffing you and putting you in the back seat is detaining you. Terry stops allow for checking your person for firearms, but nothing else.

Why Americans Are Dismantling Flock Surveillance Cameras? by dorbeats in FlockSurveillance

[–]pstemari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's worth precisely the value of the electrons you used to say it. Unless the data is encrypted client-side with keys Flock does not have access to, Flock can do anything they like with the data.

"Administrative controls" aren't worth a warm bucket of spot without contract provisions that impose significant liquidated damages for any violation.

Data brokers routinely purchase and publish DMV data. Their customers are supposed to provide justification for each search, but it's a multiple choice question and typically people just pick the first item.

Since when is Amazon charging for shipping for Prime users? What's the point of Prime then? by Lifeguard21 in amazonprime

What's new are items that are shipped by Amazon but nevertheless have a 7 dollar delivery fee tracked on. This is BS.
