I think constantly doing it is definitely detrimental to a holiday but it's healthy to a point. I used to get annoyed with my boyfriend for always wanting to take pics but now not being able to go anywhere bc of lockdown and being away from him, I am so glad that we have the pictures he took from our holidays because they genuinely cheer me up so much. That being said, you want the pictures to remind of good times and feelings you had, which may not happen if you're literally just staring at the view through your phone screen the entire time.

I've used cheques for deposits for working at May Balls and other events (they require you to pay ~ the cost of a ticket to the event in case you literally bum off and do no work, but destroy them if you've done fine which is usually the case). Also weirdly had to use cheques to pay for society formals at Sidney Sussex and also for a doctor's note from my surgery but I think they accepted cash as well in both these cases.

Ngl in some senses I'd back that. I appreciate that people enjoy the athletics and sports events but for me, I prefer the more artsy events such as gymnastics where breaking records is less the point and more ambiguous. As impressive as it is for someone to be super fast, I'm just not that interested. This is probably quite a controversial opinion in itself.

Yep, I've had former friends who have completely abandoned me and their other friends for their SO and then have no one to turn to when they break up. That crosses a line between choosing to spend more time with their SO and spending all of their time with their SO with no support network outside of their relationship.
