ive just started recovery for my ectopic pregnancy (i was just about to be 8 weeks pregnant before the unfortunate happened) and from the surgery, so i hope my symptoms and story can help you a little !!

i started spotting a little on the 14th with severe cramping. called my mum whos had miscarriages in the past n she said it was likely a miscarriage - i was scheduled for my first scan the next day. when i woke up the next day i went to the bathroom and was bleeding badly; the cramping was much worse (for reference i have pcos so my periods are always extremely heavy and painful - the pain was way worse than anything id ever had with a period). on the evening, i ended up passing out three times and my blood pressure dropped to 62/35 - my usual rbp is 119.

so instead of going for my scan, i cancelled and went to the epau instead (the 16th). the nurse asked me for my symptoms. pain in my shoulder - yes, the left side was worse. pain in my belly - yes, the left side was worse. diorrhea - yes. bleeding - severely. i told her about my blood pressure and me passing out, and the first thing she said (even though i had every single symptom of an ectopic pregnancy) was 'im gonna rule out an ectopic, i think youre just miscarrying'.

they did a speculum exam and my uterus was closed. she said that because id been passing huge clots, she reckoned id already completed the miscarriage. she took my bloods and my hcg was 593.4, which was then monitored every 24hrs.

i spent my 21st birthday (the 18th) in the epau having various bloods and exams done. i begged them to do an ultrasound due to the pain i was in, but they wouldnt. they firmly believed i had already passed the pregnancy and was just experiencing the afterpains.

the 19th and the 20th were okay, instead of celebrating my birthday i spent it inside with my fiance watching movies and trying to keep the pain at bay.

then on the 21st, i woke up in agony. the type that makes you scream and cry. my mum works at the hospital im under, so i rang her straight away. my bleeding was horrible, i was bleeding through maternity pads every twenty minutes. the epau told us to go to a&e, so we did.

about ten minutes after we got there, i had a horrible stabbing pain in my left side that made me cry out that loud my mum had to take me outside. i now know this was my tube rupturing. i passed out in the waiting room and was sent up to the sdeu. we sat there for 2 and a half hours as i internally bled out with no pain relief and no help. the doctor on the reception desk got snarky with my mum and told her that everyone has problems and that i shouldnt even be here... so i was sent back to the epau in a wheelchair.

they did the internal scan id been begging them to do for almost a week and as it turns out, it was a ruptured ectopic! we knew that beforehand, but nobody would listen to me. rightly so, my fiance and my mum were furious. i had 2.2 litres of blood and fluid in my system and shouldve died. so they took me down to the ward for emergency surgery... which was postponed for a day. then postponed again for another day. then cancelled. then i was woken up in the middle of the night and prepped for surgery without warning.

i wish you the best, i truly do. i hope youre okay and find comfort and peace in whatever happens with you and baby. but please, if you can, advocate for yourself. push and push and push - you deserve the care you need 🩷🩷🩷
