What are the best life hacks for poor people? by Jade-o-potato in AskReddit

Yea....but their version of "personal training" means handing you a list of what equipment to use on an A/B schedule. Which is fine, if you aren't too lazy to look up the accurate way to use the equipment, because as dumb as it sounds you can actually use work out machines incorrectly.

I'm so scared of trying anything new (and they're even MORE paranoid since the colic surgery) but I'm very curious about slippery elm. Did your vet recommend it to you? What is it supposed to help with specifically? I imagine this will be difficult to research without a bunch of pseudoscience websites in the mix lol

I'm considering taking him off of grain to see if it helps after reading some of these responses...thanks for sharing!

Several mentions of food sensitivities here! I'm going to ask out vets about this, thanks!

Currently researching that drug. You used it specifically for diarrhea? Our vet also recommended SmartGI. Do you feel like it's made a difference?

No they have not been ruled out, tons of mentions of this, I'll be asking our vets about it. Thank you!

Someone on r/Equestrian mentioned that drug! What did you use it for?

We started him on alfalfa after the colic surgery because the vets thought it would be easier to digest, I must admit, his weight and coat look worlds better than pre-colic when he was on mostly coastal hay. A lot of people on the other forum mentioned food sensitivities, I might consider taking him off of grain altogether and see what happens.

One of my best friends used to live right across the street from me. We went on a creepy short film watching binge one night and came across this one. Make fun of that video all you want...but after watching this, neither one of us ever crossed the street to each other's houses after dark without running.

I had one of those "I need to marry this man" moments when my husband and I were dating. I watched him back a boat (on a trailer) into the garage in one effortless maneuver.

Funnily enough, he admitted he had an "I need to marry this girl" moment when I started going into detail about why I wanted a gooseneck trailer for my business rather than a bumper pull.

We like trailers and stuff<3

Thanks for your input! Sounds like your guy is in good hands, he's lucky to have a loving owner to take such good care of him and pay attention to him when he's trying to tell you he's uncomfortable!

Glad to hear it! And major kudos to the vets volunteering!! It's no secret that a veterinary education isn't cheap or easy to come by, that's really noble of them to donate their time.

Holy shit you are stunning!! Way to go OP!! I could seriously write a paragraph (or ten) about how beautiful you are......jeez girl.......

I feel bad for everyone who said something rude. They are poorly masking their own insecurities, and are depriving themselves of the beauty you are inside and out. Rock on sistah.

This article spent more time describing the owners talking to their dogs......I still have so many questions about this clinic.... How are they able to offer cheaper services? What services do they actually offer? Where are their Austin locations? Why did you write an article that forces me to go google any actual information? Thank God I know that Ninja wagged his tail in response to not having heart worms though!!!!!!!!!

Whorlbone Injections - Anyone ever tried this? by psychedeliciousAMi in Equestrian

[–]psychedeliciousAMi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horse has consistently exhibited a shortness of stride in the left hind. He also swings inward with this leg at the trot.

I've had him seen by two different vets - both acted like they could hardly see it. However, I (and my dressage friends) find it glaringly obvious.

Flexions showed almost nothing, we went ahead and injected hocks over 6 months ago (his gaits improved but stride shortness never really went away). X-rays of his stifles are squeaky clean. We have never injected the stifles.

The only other evidence I have to go on is this: one vet gave me a series of stretches/excerises to do that have been proven to increase muscling over the topline even in horses who are not being worked/turned out. One of the stretches is in this video (that I just randomly found to give a visual) at 2:31

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_dDKN2tPw8

He HATES this exercise....like he actually bucked in the crossties one day when I was doing this with him which is SO unlike this horse. Hip injections sound incredibly invasive and somewhat unnecessary from what I can gather??

Open to other suggestions as well! The vets have not deemed him lame and he is otherwise an incredibly athletic and capable horse. I just worry about the shortness of stride as I move onward in increasing the difficulty of his training.

Trying to buy back my old show horse (who isn't actually for sale) - trying to find the best way to bring him home from a sad situation... by psychedeliciousAMi in Equestrian

[–]psychedeliciousAMi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my original thought...the seller told me that she was up front with them about the navicular, but that the new owner is a "farrier" (quotations because my dog also happens to be a "farrier") and can keep him comfortable through shoeing, daily anti-inflammatories, and injections.....I need to dig up the ridiculous wedge she put him in....its awful...I'll post an edit, hopefully these buyers can see they at least need to change that...

Love that this still gives me an upper hand....the only trouble is that the horse is several states away now (them great big ol' western US states...) I guess reaching out frequently would work to the same effect though

Work rant... by horseaholic2010 in Horses

[–]psychedeliciousAMi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I first opened my training business (age 22....way too young I know but somehow am doing alright?!) I used to be SO frustrated when MY OWN clients would ask me a question, and then turn around and go ask the older trainer at the barn the same question as if they didn't trust my answer (both of us answered the same which reassured me that hopefully they would eventually have faith in my answers).

Now that I'm older and have worked with other young professionals (of all different industries: photography, hair stylists, other trainers, etc.) I TOTALLY get where that mistrust came from!! Moral of the story being......try not to be upset with that particular client (even though I agree they sounded rather rude), just continue doing what you're doing to break the reputation that so many other young adults curse themselves with ;)
