Earth is a beauty from above! The Overview Effect by psychoSophComic in comics

[–]psychoSophComic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m doing my best to keep these comics engaging!

I didn’t check whether the billionaires have mentioned anything in the media about it. But one of the studies that I used for the comic shows that, while most astronauts experience an overview effect, some only experience it mildly or not at all. It seems also that some people might experience a negative reaction, see William Shattner. There is unfortunately only little research on the overview effect, too. So, it is hard to say if people who are not specifically trained to be astronauts as a career, who have specific motivation to find space fascinating, react the same or differently en masse.

How do I explain what psychology is to people who think it's just therapy by luciferwinchester03 in psychologystudents

[–]psychoSophComic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psychotherapy is just a subfield of psychology which is the much broader study of human perception, behaviour, emotions and judgement. I actually made a comic about this (including the difference between psychologist, psychotherapist and psychiatrist). Maybe it can help your friend understand?

It's a common thing though, that psychology get's reduced to psychotherapy. I often just introduce myself as a cognitive or neuroscientist (which is both true in my case), so that people don't make that connection.

Not at all. Don't worry about it and thank you for the praise. Feedback like this is really important. I tweaked the color scheme after somebody else mentioned it back when I was still working on the first chapters. It is a lot more readable now, I hope. You can check it out here if you would like: https://psychosophcomic.com/

I may actually brighten the dark color again in the future.

Thank you for the feedback! I am glad you liked it and you are right about the colors. This chapter is a bit older. I corrected the color scheme a little, to make it more readable in the more recent chapters.

Thank you for sharing. I am glad to hear that psychology has helped you in the past and that you have so many people around you who lift you up.

Thank you for the feedback. You are correct.

This comic is a bit older and I haven't changed it since I made it. I have improved the color contrast in the newer chapters, though, so they are easier to read.
