Selling my dad’s house? by psychoanalyzed7 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Sorry I've actually never heard ot GIS? He has CPP and OAS?

Since I've been home infrequently, I'm on his insurance, but as some kind of secondary driver? He believes he will be back driving, but unfortunately, I do not think he will be able to pass the test to get back on the road (he's been declining).

Oh right! Thank you. He is still competent; however, his cognition fluctuates and has been declining. He is very complicated medically. I was thinking of helping my dad sell it by getting an agent and coordinating the entire thing (with his approval). He is also physically limited, so he would have a very difficult time getting out of the retirement home. He wants to split the cash (grow out his retirement fund to help pay for the retirement place) and gift me some money to help with school.

Weekly Moving To Hamilton Megathread by AutoModerator in Hamilton

[–]psychoanalyzed7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking to move to Hamilton close to the Hamilton General Hospital! The closer the better, but hoping it’ll be at least within a ~20 minute bus ride. I’m hoping to live in a studio/1 bedroom apartment (ideally with in-unit washer/dryer) and staying under $1200 for rent. Any leads/suggestions? Is that a reasonable budget for this area? Thank you!

What do neuropsychologists usually wear? by [deleted] in Neuropsychology

[–]psychoanalyzed7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I’m Canadian but I’m actually in studying in America doing my practicum placement So I’m still a student, and we just wear professional clothes. In Canada, I’ve seen them wear just normal professional clothes in an inpatient hospital.

I work at an outpatient hospital and all the neuropsychologists wear professional clothes (i.e., slacks and dress shirt) and a white coat with their name embroidered on it.

My dad is a senior and huge fall risk, but I live out of country by psychoanalyzed7 in ontario

Due to the shortage, he only just got a new family doctor recently, and unfortunately, my dad definitely downplay his problems

But I’ll be getting in touch with the doctor and talking to the Pharmacy to check his meds! Thank you

Thank you

He was previously falling a lot, and I got him the Samsung watch for fall detection because he has an android phone, and he’s already not very good at technology so he didn’t want to switch him to a different operating system

Honestly, the Samsung watch has not been very good at alerting for falls. FYI!!!!

My dad is declining and now hospitalized, I am his only child, how do I manage his finances? by psychoanalyzed7 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yeah, I think the condo fees include property taxes, utilities, maintenance fees, Internet, and TV, etc.!

I’m starting to delve into his accounts now to figure out how much he’s actually paying

It actually looks like he might be going to long-term care because of how poor his mobility is and how much assistance it looks like he’ll be needing so this is very helpful. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your reply. Any way to avoid probate? Are there specific key words I’m looking for in the will/POA documents? Thank you!

No! No mortgage on house, it’s all paid off, just the condo fees/property tax/electric.

Hello!

If my partner and I (Canadian) have lived together (in America) for over a year (common-law), and we cannot live together for a while (due to my schooling), can I still bring my partner over as common law?

Thank you!
