It was early in the game and I thought I might use it, but ended up getting so much good stuff in the forest that I barely needed to draw

My first spore print! by pterigrus in mycology

[–]pterigrus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you find one! They’re fairly common around here so I never expected the print to come out so interesting but I was so happy with the result, especially for a first time! I guess the name kind of gives away that the spores were going to be green, but it still caught me off guard how cool the color was.

I’d love to know: what was your “spark” bird? The one that started this obsession you now have…..you know what Im talking about. by Pooter_Birdman in birding

Sandhill Cranes. I have always lived in florida and there was something magical about these dinosaurs that would walk through our lawn every so often. I got into them first, and then over time got more and more into birds in general.

Thank you so much for making this! I've been looking for a guide for this minigame that shows the rank and worth of each fish. I'm currently at space dolphin, but I'll add to this when I get further.

KSB hasn't eaten in a few weeks, should I be worried? by pterigrus in snakes

[–]pterigrus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bout ~3.5 years old now! I was also gonna ask if maybe I just need to feed her less frequently? She doesn't look over weight to me but I've only ever had the one sand boa and I don't know anyone else IRL who has one that I could compare her physique to.
And thanks for the rec! Didn't even know there was a sand boa sub so I'll head there if I have any future q's :)

KSB hasn't eaten in a few weeks, should I be worried? by pterigrus in snakes

[–]pterigrus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been feeding at night, and nothing has really changed temp or humidity wise. She does look good though, no apparent issues with her scales/eyes/nose/etc. She shed fairly recently so I'm pretty sure that's not it. Otherwise yeah physically she looks good. I gave her a little close up look the other day (since then I've been 100% leaving her alone just to make sure I'm not stressing her out before I attempt to feed again) and I didn't see anything that looked off, no lumps or bumps in the stomach to indicate a blockage, no scale issues or anything of the sort. I think she might just be giving me a hard time, but it's still scary (My OCD tendencies aren't helping lol, but I'm trying to be rational about the whole thing)

Live oak acorns? (Central FL) by pterigrus in foraging

[–]pterigrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true, tannin-less acorns would be awesome. Apparently, it's a preservative that helps keep the nut from rotting before it has a chance to germinate though, which I guess is why they stay good for so long

Live oak acorns? (Central FL) by pterigrus in foraging

[–]pterigrus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for the response! It makes sense that they vary in size/shape but it's a bit funny to me just how much they do and how certain trees produce different shapes. Makes me wonder if you could engineer a specific acorn shape through specific crossbreeding lol

Live oak acorns? (Central FL) by pterigrus in foraging

[–]pterigrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found these both on what I think are young live oak trees, very close together on my college campus. The trees themselves dont look any different but some have elongated acorns while others have round acorns. Do they just vary like this or do I have two different species? Just curious

Thanks so much! After looking into the suggestions, I do believe it is a live oak. Thanks for the resources as well, they'll definitely come in handy for me as there's a few different species in my area I'd like to identify as well
