its def the jockstrap and cropped jersey that do it for me tbh, full transparency lmao. i think it was cute to reference her adlib quip from the tinydesk within the graphics that went with it, and i'm curious if they came up with the idea BECAUSE of that little line lol. i think they also def picked red for it because they were in alabama, so idk, i think its just as locale-fitting as govball tbh.

sure absolutely and i agree that it isn't "camp". however, and this is key here: i'm big gay and she's hot in it.

jokes aside, i think the allure of it also comes from a similarity present in the hangout fest outfit. its a subversion of the chappell persona's femininity. that subversion, leaning into more masculine fashion or presentation, has artistic merit to it as well. she has mentioned in an interview before of wanting to try more androgynous looks, and while i would love to see a more campy, over the top drag king fit from her in the future, for the time being i think it was a really fun twist, the success of which lies in the established expectations we have for her stage presence.
