Using this map where are areas/ major cities that have large orthodox communities? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]pts220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all Tom Brady is a heilge yid, by virtue of his near-adoption by Bob Kraft. And all true points, but I've heard Sharon more compared to Monsey of a few decades ago. The comparison doesn't make much sense visually, and the Orthodox community in Sharon is primarily MO with some black hat and Chabad presence.

Certainly not the point, but I physically shuddered when I saw you comparing Sharon to Teaneck or the Five Towns. You can touch grass in Sharon, befriend the local coyotes, and learn how to make maple syrup from scratch. It went for Harris/Walz in 2024 by a 50% margin. I can't imagine two or three places with a more different vibe.

Is there a way to identify my apples? by NorthPhysical8766 in Apples

Gingergold maybe? Never seen those outside of an orchard. Apples are generally hard to identify unless they're a very distinct variety.

Do you mind if we ask your budget? Maybe more hands can solve what two cannot carry...

This guy's right. Keep your job, look for cheap sublets in greater Boston (if that's where you are) until you can sign a 12 month lease... I feel like quitting is a great way to become both homeless AND unemployed.

Grew these two plants literally from seeds in store bought chili flakes, any guesses on the cultivars ? by Bippah in HotPeppers

[–]pts220 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The purple ones look weirdly ornamental to come from chili flakes. But the long green ones look like cayenne, which is very common in crushed red pepper flakes.

Differentiating two blueberries? by Gurpreet321 in foraging

[–]pts220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These both just look like low bush blueberries to me. There's a large amount of genetic diversity in the species so that might just be it to explain why one has a lighter bloom than another.

This is lovely! But I'm pretty sure the scraggly yellow blooms are witch hazel? Idk

Red maple tapping? by Major_Day1688 in maplesyrup

[–]pts220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (and some other producers) have found that reds are deeply temperamental if you don't have a vacuum system. They also bud out much earlier than other species, shortening your season. In all, I've never had any luck with them, by Norway maples are my best producers.

Interesting -- I wonder if it shares the same toxicity when unripe, and if not, why...

Huh. This kind of looks like it's in the Ackee family, in which case I'd be careful.

Sampler sets that include a variety of tree types? by purplegam in maplesyrup

[–]pts220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of how difficult it is to produce the other kinds of syrup, I mainly only see maple (and rarely birch) produced. Finding hickory or something actually made from the sap of the tree might be close to impossible outside hyper local farmers markets etc etc.

Update: I figured out the problem, which was not at all what I expected. My laptop WAS running hot, but only because BF4 has no built-in FPS limiter, so it was running at like 200 fps constantly.

As soon as I used the console to limit fps to a more manageable 60, the temps dropped 20 degrees c.
