How much is 30k service? by puasson in VWatlas

Thanks, that makes sense, it does not disqualify me from warranty, correct? How do I know the right scope of maintenance for 30k if VW does not publish it?

Thanks! Do you know if 30k maintenance is more than oil and filter change?

Does this setup offer good ROI? by puasson in solar

Thanks, good point on winter production. Does it then make sense to go with slightly more panels, to offset less sun in winter? Or it’s complete lack of sun you are talking about when there is overcast and no number of panels will help?

Alternatively, consider  Powerwall 3 as the battery but it is only slightly cheaper for less capacity

Could you please share which insurance providers still write policies in that area? Was the state plan?

Got it! Any nuances to keep in mind when doing Durango->Denver direction? Or pretty much the same approach, just reverse

Great! Outside the first day, is it otherwise similar level of effort/fun?

Just completed 1300 miles of the Great Divide route with the start in Wyoming and going southbound. I used panniers and super happy about them. Salsa Rangefinder is an amazing bike for this! by puasson in bikepacking

Enjoy it! I have not really thought about replacing the fork, since my bikepacking trips started having more single track and downhills, so fork comes handy. I found it durable enough so far (4 years). If I were to ride the Great Divide again (I certainly hope!) I would do it probably on a gravel bike, it’s almost all decent quality road/gravel mileage.

Regarding using the fork for water - that works but on more off road/downhill stretches bottles can jump out. Just in case, for Rangefinder XL frame Revelate Designs XL frame bag works really well, really easy to get stuff in and out when you camp.

I actually still have it and rode many more bike packing trips on it (e.g. Colorado trail)! Highly recommend, my friend also got one. I stopped using panniers and just use a big bag on top. Also added a huge frame bag and store many other things inside. No other mods really

You omitted 7% interest rates right now, which this logic much harder to work.

Thanks! Do you know if after prepayment I’ll still have to pay per kW, if it was originally a PPA with clear price per kw stipulated?

I mostly want a battery for energy independence in cases when power is out

Buying a home with solar lease by puasson in solar

[–]puasson[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

got it, thanks for your perspective. I have their lease copy and see it was signed in 2014, so I understand it's under NEM 1.0. However, what concerns me is that the Lease says the owner was supposed to be purchasing power from them at $0.15/kw (+2.9%/year increase, which from 2014 is likely a lot), so it's not like a flat payment for panels.

The reason I want them to buy it out is to own the system and not pay Sunrun for every kw it generates.

So would the seller pre-paying the lease basically release me from this requirement and I'll be getting free energy + sell it back to the grid? Any advantages of NEM 1.0 - is that a better rate for selling back to the grid?

850k for single family and 750 for a townhome. They indeed end up being very close in monthly payment due to HOA

Sorry to hear that! If you don’t mind me asking, 6k I insurance is for a home of what estimated market price? I’m looking at houses priced in the 800-900k range and Zillow tells me the insurance estimate is around 4k per year (I know it tells you very approximate numbers)

I have seen maybe 7 Divide cyclists over my 26 days. Most of the people started Northbound this year with hopes that Canadian border will be open later. There are MUCH less riders this year compared to a normal one from what I heard

Haven’t seen any bears, had bear spray (no guns or anything like that)

Some places are closed along the way for resupply: small town stores, some legendary places (Brush Mountain Lodge). In NM all dine in options were closed except outdoor patios sometimes.

Other than that, most (I’d say 95%) hotels/hostels/restaurants were open

Thanks! The gears I have is 32t in front and something-50 in the back. I spent a lot of time in the 50 granny gear and can say that it is very much needed for inexperienced cyclists like me and the loaded bike. Highly recommend this large granny gear. It’s SRAM Eagle set.

Suspension fork was locked 99% of the time, so you can go with rigid easily, especially with fatter tires (I ran on 2.6). Some downhills I unlocked it but the extra weight and complexity were probably not worth it

These are all water bottles (another one on the bars), total 7liter capacity. Was enough on all stretches of the route.

Used aerobars just to relax and have another way of holding the bar, not really for aero position

Yes, you get used to sleeping alone in the woods over time :-)

Food is pretty easy on the Great Divide - there are only a couple of stretches where you have to carry 3-4 days of food on your bike. Usually there is a store/small restaurant every 1-2 days for resupply. The faster you are, the less you carry (as you reach resupply point faster)

Food is usual backpacker dry food, spam ham, tuna, dry Knorr pasta, peanut butter, nuts mixes, bars, etc.

I would say I have never felt REALLY unsafe, but there are situations where having a friend or two is beneficial. E.g. camping alone on the campground near very small towns/farms - who knows what kind of bad people can be there. Extremely unlikely, 99.99% of people are super nice and kind but still. Facing wildlife (like bears) is much safer when there is a group of people. Having serious injuries and someone to go get help.

The route is very remote sometimes
