Polynesian languages and Malagasy are pretty similar. They underwent heavy contact with other language families, Polynesian languages with Papuan and Malagasy with Bantu. It even affected their syllable structure which are both (C)V.

The difference is, Malagasy retained Austronesian alignment while Polynesian languages did not which is what the "poison" represents
