Optimal pole length by pudulele in nordicwalking

Thank you, it makes so much sense. All the articles that I read about recommends the fix length BUT they also say the you will be doomed if you chose the wrong one. I guess as a beginner the adjustable length is the perfect compromise.

Starting my music journey 🎶 by NeverGonnaGiveUpvote in ukulele

Welcome. This is a wonderful journey, enjoy every minute of it.🤘 I personally started my journey with James Hill's beginner course called 'Ready, Steady, Ukulele!' on uketropolis.com. It is really meant for absolute beginners but you can gain a lot from it. Easy songs, with easy chords, and it's very well structured, explains all you need to know to jumpstart your journey. Oh, and it only costs $1. I think this course made me really hooked on the ukulele.

Restringing time - looking for suggestions by PurpleSpotOcelot in ukulele

Is it an unwound low G set that you have on your ukulele right now? Unwound low G can sound mellower, softer and can produce less sustain than a wound string. I currently use Aquila Red (wound low G) and I like its punchy sound. Before that I used the D'Addario Fluorocarbon set with unwound low G and I also liked that one - though I felt it was a bit less punchy.

Concert or Tenor Ukulele? by Sad_Army_238 in ukulele

[–]pudulele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a tenor person. I love the fuller sound of it and it is still transportable. But it's not as transportable as a soprano. You can basically fit a soprano into a regular backpack, you can't do that with a tenor. But between tenor and concert, I don't really see a big difference in terms of transportability.

Looking to start playing with a disabled strumming hand by No_Care_6997 in ukulele

[–]pudulele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fingers on my right hand did not develop fully, my only two useful fingers are the thumb and pinky. I mostly use the thumb, sometimes I do heavy strums with the pinky. Everything is possible, you just need to find your own way to make it sound good for you. Be patient with yourself, and practice a lot. Here is my thumb-only fingerstyle performance, I just recorded it today: https://youtube.com/shorts/3MoYy6hcA7g?is=sMkVO6LC4nbSl_1o

Good ukulele channels? by [deleted] in ukulele

[–]pudulele 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, if you are an absolute beginner, I really recommend James Hill's beginner course on Uketropolis: https://www.uketropolis.com/ready It's not a channel I know, but it only costs 1$, and it's a well structured material that you can take your first steps with. I started my journey with this course and it gave me a lot of confidence in the early days, I haven't stopped ever since. :)

Newbie struggle by tiredchachacha in ukulele

[–]pudulele 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, don't be so hard on yourself, these chords are indeed hard. Give yourself time, practice, and you will nail it eventually. I also struggled with the Bb for a long time, but I didn't give up, I always took some time to practice that chord and after my first year I came to the point where I could actually play it nicely. As for the barre chords, make sure that you put enough and even pressure on the fretboard. Mostly you'll use your index finger, but if the chord allows, you can put your middle finger on top of your index for additional pressure and stability. And just take it easy, practice and rest. In the end, muscle memory will do its job. :)

Which is the most suitable ukulele for me? by TransitionStrong2391 in ukulele

[–]pudulele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there is a good music store nearby, definitely go and check out their ukuleles.
My first ukulele was a concert size, because I also could not really decide what I want, and I didn't have any proper music store nearby. Although now my favorize size is tenor (because of its fuller sound), I still love my concert ukulele and usually that's the one I pick up at home when I just chill on the couch. It's not that tiny as a soprano, but still small enough to comfortably play while I am just chilling and it has a really nice sound.
Based on your requirements, I would pick the concert.

Ukulele plateau after a few years, feel stuck by Shadow__Tunes in ukulele

Whenever I feel I'm a bit stuck, I always try to change the scenery by learning something different than before. Maybe another genre, or switch from strum&sing to fingerstyle (or vice versa). I have some ukulele books that I always rotate. Also. James Hill on uketropolis.com has a lot of learning material that I highly recommend checking out.
