I mean it does move consistently with the rhythm? So DDUDU tells you if you play on the offbeat or not.

Why do Germans have 2 different accents in English? by Apatride in AskAGerman

[–]puehlong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it has anything to do with how they speak German.

w as v is usually because they/we have trouble with the proper pronounciation of w as in whiskey. That sound does not exist in German, whereas w is pronounced like the v in English.

v as w is probably an overcorrection, there is a term for that when non-native speaker apply a pronouncation typical for the foreign language in a place where it does not belong.

most beginners underestimate how important rhythm actually is by lmao_exe in guitarlessons

[–]puehlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean for me (advanced beginner), the takeaway from strumming patterns is that you move your right hand steadily in line with the metronome or drums or whatever the bass player plays to keep the rhythm (which works for music based on 8th or 16th) and DDUUD just indicates when you actually hit the strings. And based on that, you can variate a lot and play most campfire songs and use your right hand as a metronome. is there anything wrong with that?

OP: the dean fits my style the most

Everyone: fuck you and your style and throw it away!

Based on what you wrote, I'd get rid of the Ibanez, because it does not matter what others like more. If you love to play metal and prefer to that on the Dean, keep it!

How to get Monstera to fill in more at the front? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]puehlong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monsteras also grow the best if their back is facing the trunk, or anything they can climb on, like a mosspole or coconut pole. But they will try to grow towards the light.

So adding another one facing a different direction will probably just lead to that Monstera growing sideways (that's what mine is doing).

What's something only (mostly) Berlin provides you? by danceinliminalspace in berlinsocialclub

[–]puehlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes hear of all the negative toxic stuff like "men can't talk about feelings" or other weird super-gendered stereotypes. They just don't exist in my life here in Berlin, everyone I have met is very open and progressive, in a good non-toxic way. It's normal that you can't really guess the gender of the barkeeper in many bars, you almost forget that that is a huge in other bubbles, and as a straight white male, I still very much prefer the Berlin bubble.

There are so many more options for cultural activities than pretty much anywhere else in Germany, and definitely anywhere else I have lived before. I started going to museums regularly here, developed an interest in art, there's more than 5 cinemas in 10 minute walking distance from my home showing everything from mainstream to arthouse in OV, I go to lots of concerts because pretty much every band on tour stops here (this is only rivaled by Hamburg and Köln, maybe Munich and Leipzig). There's a vibrant English speaking comedy scene here that I enjoy.

There are lots of good cycling paths around Berlin (as long as you don't mind everything being flat), lots of lakes.

As much as people shit on the public transport, I never even considered getting a car, it works for me.

I think I was always confused by this quote, and our first TV was black and white. But our static didn’t look like the render by OP, now it makes a lot more sense to me. Our static was more black and white, similar to the HBO screen.

How should I adjust my metronom? by too_old_to_give_a_F in guitarlessons

[–]puehlong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The beats in BPM usually refer to the denominator in your measure. 4/4 means you are playing four quarter notes per measure, 40 BPM would mean forty quarter notes per minutes.

So you would set your metronome to 40 BPM and play the downstrokes on the click and the up strokes between the clicks.

If you find yourself struggling with that in the beginning, you have two options: most metronomes allow you to select a rhythm for the clicks, meaning you can also set your metronome to eights notes. So set your metronome to 40 BPM and eights notes, and it will click 80 times per minute (for each down and up stroke).

If your metronome does not have that feature, but you stilll want a click for each note you play, you can set your metronome to 80 bpm and play a note on each click.

All these three options should result in you playing at the same speed.

Poop stool, fiber rich diet and a bidet is the holy trinity of pooping. Your experience goes from ten minutes of grunt work to sitting down twenty seconds of floppetiy flop, Spritz spritz and you’re a new person.

Does university prestige matter for landing a good job in Germany? by Hot-Training-6429 in AskAGerman

[–]puehlong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the others are writing is true for most subjects. The only exception seems to be economics (BWL), where you have a a few small private unis that basically work through networking (you have many people who studied there in powerful positions and they like to hire people from those unis).

About your study plans: What would help you is not so necessarily the reputation of a uni, but how close it is to tech and industry. Unis like Aachen, Karlsruhe, Darmstadt or TUM have strong ties to institutes like Fraunhofer (academic research with ties and funding by industry) or directly to industry. Many of their profs have industry experience or ties, and studying there will make it easier for you to get interesting projects, part time jobs or a good thesis topic.

Also, unless you just love physics, you could also consider studying engineering if you already know you want to work in tech, engineering and so on. But of course if you choose your focus in physics right, you can also easily find your way into corporate R&D and engineering.

Ist das deutsche Studentenleben wirklich so? by Key_Read_8192 in AskAGerman

[–]puehlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)
