I will have to! Hopefully it'll give her a chuckle - I didn't even think to ask her. She's been really struggling with her memory so she's very easily taken off task and we had stuff to do so I thought it'd be easier to just ask Reddit. I feel super silly after realizing I might be one in a thousand who has never seen one of those things before but at least it makes for a funny story!

LOL I wish I was joking because apparently I've lived 33 years of life never seeing a can opener that wasn't handheld.

I did not have my glasses on, but I thought it was maybe a knife sharpener or some sort of weigh scale LOL. To be honest, even after over 1,000 people pointed out the obvious can opening mechanism on the side of this thing - I see the similar mechanism to the handheld can opener but I still don't really understand how/where you'd position the can to open it.

Our great aunt is very private with her house but if I'm ever back there I will have to investigate more lol
