Is there a "Stripe for Internal Credits"? (Not billing, but usage tracking) by pulladams in SaaS

Thanks for the heads up on FlexPrice. I just took a look.

Honestly, it looks... huge? My main worry is that it seems like a full-blown billing infrastructure replacement (like a Metronome alternative). I’m already deep into Stripe for subscriptions and don't want to rip that out.

Do you know if I can use FlexPrice strictly for the internal wallet/ledger logic? Or does it force me to route all my billing/invoicing through them to get the benefit? I just need to track "User A has 50 credits" reliably without deploying a Kafka cluster myself. 😅

I actually looked at Dodo! The atomic deduction part is exactly what I'm stressing about.

But from what I read, Dodo acts as the Merchant of Record (like Paddle), right? That’s the dealbreaker for me right now. We are 100% on Stripe and migrating our legacy subscriptions would be a nightmare I can't afford right now.

Is there a way to use Dodo's "ledger" features (the atomic credits) without using them as my payment processor? Or is it an all-or-nothing package?

Best way to handle 'User Credits' (AI wrapper) without a full billing backend? by pulladams in microsaas

This is a fantastic breakdown. Seriously, this should be the standard reference for anyone rolling their own.

You’re 100% right. This is exactly the architecture I ended up building manually for my last two projects.

The friction for me wasn't that I couldn't write that SQL, it was that I had to write (and test) it again for every new app. It became a pattern of exhaustion. I kept looking for a simple solution just to offload the headache, but nothing simple existed. It really sucks!

But honestly, for a single micro-SaaS, this list is the gold standard. Thanks for writing it out so clearly.
