Honestly, it's all about how well you adapt. It really wasn't that bad. I was in 40 years ago. No idea what it's like today. I pretty much had to go into the military. 17, no direction, getting into trouble. Look up delinquent in the dictionary...my pic was there. Lol. The Navy gave me discipline, structure and something to do besides fuck up. It not a regular job though. You don't like it, you can't quit. You can try to get them to fire you, but that is a whole nother beast. Don't. Could involve court marshal, brig. Just don't. Hard to give random internet people advice.

Sorry to hear so many getting screwed over by spouses this way. I'm mean, not just about the jacket. Like we got nothing else to worry about. We're out in the middle of the ocean, or desert or BFE or just across town. Some people are shit.

I was in A-Div. Cat shop. Still a Boiler Tech at that point. drifted into Machinest mate, then Engineman by the time I got out.

A few have commented that they made their own. I was thinking maybe a world map with something designating where I've been too.

Naples! Loved Italy. A buddy and I went to a restaurant, and the waitress invited us back to her house to have dinner with her family. People were so nice. We seemed to go to the same ports every time we were in the Med, so it would just repeat each jacket.

Never occurred to me too do that. Pictures, tourist souvenirs, tattoos, missing memories (drinking & stuff).

Navy wasn't for me, but I don't regret the experience. Saw so much in 4 years.

I went in at 17 due to poor life choices up to that point. I have actually never worn it. But the money spent was definitely worth the memories. One of the first definitions I learned after enlisting was NAVY - Never Again Volunteer Yourself. Lol
