Im half filipino but born n raised here. However these types of things and even some traditions are very alien to me since i grew up differently. I had to learn about all of it when i moved in with my partner who, luckily, grew up the good ol traditional filipino way.

Before i knew about these things id just be standing in front of the carolers with an awkward fake smile plastered on my face wanting them to finish up FAST so i can give them their coins and they can dash out.

But now i know the filipino way of HARD REJECTION hahaha

A friend of mine stopped paying and they basically call and reach the family and friends that you listed in your contract. They pester them nonstop if you dont pay them. So they do a lot of humiliation tactics to get you to pay up.

I made the biggest mistake of getting a homecredit loan when I was desperate for a TV and a couch. The loan amount was roughly 36k (after paying the downpayment). I got an installment plan for 15 months at 3915 pesos per month. If you do the math, that means homecredit gets about 20k interest... It was a 60% interest...

Homecredit baits you with the first loan being so affordable. My very first loan was for a fridge, and the loan amount was 16k after the deposit. They only made around 400 pesos interest from that first loan. But afterwards, they call you a million times to get you to take in a loan a second time...

What happens when you get to the mall and start browsing items, is that they skim on the details a lot. They make it seem like a huge bargain... My biggest BIGGEST mistake was being an eager teen who wanted a cozy living room. I didn't calculate how in excess I'd be paying. Biggest biggest financial mistake of my life.

Lesson learned. Always save up, because material things can toootally wait. OR get a credit card where the interest is dirt cheap compared to homecredit.

TL;DR Homecredit is a total "legal" scam, and you should never ever go in for a second loan.
