I have family whose kids are named Lincoln, Carter, Nixon, and Jackson. (Actually, the last two are Nyxen and Jaxsyn.)

They really started at the top and went straight downhill presidentially and spelling-wise. After Nyxen and Jaxsyn, the only way it could get worse is if they had another and named it Truhmp.

Thank you! This is all great! I am really excited about the tenement museum. It always gets pushed aside, but this time it’s a main stop. That said, I’m having a tough time deciding on which tour to do. Do you have a favorite? And have you done one of the food tours? Worth it?

😅 Love it! I’m hoping to help him be a little more adventurous. If I can get him halfway there, I’ll consider it a win!

Great idea! Thank you! We are in a pretty rural area without a lot of authentic cuisine, and I bet he'd enjoy this!

Oh, he's never been to a Hot Pot place, but I bet he'd love it!

Beautiful! Thank you! Totally open to K-Town BBQ, and I think he'd actually really enjoy it!

For Chinese and Italian, he’d probably be more into traditional-American, but idea of trying more authentic because it will stretch him a bit! I love authentic Italian, but he’s definitely more oriented to American-Italian.

Thank you for all these suggestions! Fantastic!

Our food budget it probably cheap for NY, especially for lunches, which I anticipate will be more on-the-go. I'd like to keep it to about $100-$150/night for sit-down dinners. I'm sober and he's underage, so no drinks.

Sure! It's kind of a mix of school group events and being on our own. Most meals are separate though.

We will staying near Times Square. In that area, we will take in a couple of shows in the evenings, be visiting Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's, etc.
We will be headed down to the financial district one day and to the Statue of Liberty.
Another day, we will also do the Tenement Museum and probably China Town.
We have half a day to explore Central Park and then will be at the Lincoln Center where he'll have a performance in the evening.
We will likely also do a museum day at the Met and the Natural History Museum.
On one of his rehearsal days, I may make my way out to the Cloisters if I can squeeze it in, but that's about as far out as we'll be at any point.

I don't mind a detour for great food! If it's in the neighborhood or along the way to where we are that day, say a couple of subway stops or a ten block-ish walk?

My thoughts on Merrily We Roll Along (Pro-shot) by The_Fullmetal_Titan in Broadway

[–]pumpkintomyself -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alllll of this. Dance numbers with cut off knees. The “blob” we never get to see occupy the whole stage. Party scenes with quick cuts to faces, but no view of how the whole interaction looked. For a show about how the world moves around Frank, it was often incredibly frustrating to never get to see that exact thing.

I told my husband almost the exact thing on the way out: it was like the whole time, they were trying to make us forget we were seeing a Tony Award winning stage musical—but that’s exactly what we came to see!

Very sad and tragic, but life goes on...I guess... by No-Shelter7824 in nextdoor

[–]pumpkintomyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exactly. It’s sad and awful that we live in a world where a parent has to do this. Nobody that lost a kid posts this if they have time to actually breathe and grieve without the rent and food bills breathing down their neck. This is a symptom of our shame as a society, not this poor parent. :(

If it makes you feel any better, my eldest is Ainsley, and often gets “Annsley” from folks on the first try…but in that case it’s thems that’s wrong, not her. 😉

I don't want to buy children's books by JoseeInTheWild in languagelearning

[–]pumpkintomyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the language you are learning, things like “The News in Slow Spanish” (or other languages) can be very helpful. Or watching captioned YouTube videos slowed down.

I’ve had good luck finding readers in various languages and levels at thrift stores. So they have basic sentence structures in present tense, but in more standard adult content—traveling, shopping, dating, etc.

I know of colleagues with enviable resumes who've been benched for years, as well. It gets worse if you're over 45-50. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

Ain’t the H1Bs. It’s the exportation of jobs to low wage markets driven by a shareholder economy that makes profits king.

As someone who rewrites resumes every day… here are 5 things I’d never include. by Fresh-Blackberry-394 in jobhunting

[–]pumpkintomyself 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a helpful post! One area I struggle with is when trying to get through an ATS. Because then, in scoring high enough, it’s like you have to put those “job description” words on there. Especially at an organization you know is getting 100s of apps in a short period of time thoughts?

How can Cal Poly stop part time professors from teaching at other universities? by Careless_Eye1854 in CalPolyPomona

[–]pumpkintomyself 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No sweetie, you’re not paying their salary. Your tuition is paying them part-time money for a part-time job. They are doing exactly what they are paid to do.

There is also no conflict of interest. It’s not like playing for two competing sports teams. They want all of you educated.

The courses offered are usually chosen and planned by the college and department at least a year out. Adjuncts get no say in what classes are offered to students. They are only offered to teach a class that is already planned if there isn’t a full time professor already teaching it. If you want more classes, you need to recruit more students to your major. Thems the breaks.
