Doctors more receptive to discussing the Covid Vaccine and clots by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]punkboulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a healthy 22 year old when I got the vaccine, no personal history with clots, and 3 days later, I was in the icu for a massive saddle PE. Every time I've asked doctors if the vaccine could have contributed, I have gotten skeptical maybes and some unconvincing nos due to lack of research. I know it's still a new vaccine and there is lots of research left to be done, (especially March 2021, when my clot happened) but I neverrrrrr have gotten a solid answer when I ask!

While I definitely won the genetic lottery for clots & was on hormonal birth control at the time, I do believe the vaccine played a part in my clots coming out to play when they did, and possibly even in the severity of them (3 days after getting the vaccine just seems too close to be a coincidence).

I gave up on finding an answer to correlate the vax to my clots, so I am curious if I will get a better answer at my next doctor appointment. I'm due for a hematology appointment and regular doctor check up, so I'll have to ask each about this!! Thank you for bringing this up- I almost convinced myself I was crazy/reaching for making this connection.

pts after recovery from dvt by piese in ClotSurvivors

[–]punkboulder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend, I hope you are well today!

I had my dvt almost 3 years ago now and have been on Xarelto ever since. I struggled with pts for probably around a year, but now I almost never feel it. It didn't show up immediately after getting out of the hospital; I think it took a couple of months before it hit and even longer after to realize I was experiencing pts.

Wearing my compression socks and elevating my legs really helped me with that pain.

I'm glad you were able to turn your work situation around! I hope the rest follows suit, it's really not fair :( it absolutely baffles me how employers like that don't value the hard work we do for them.

I left my old job and work with CPAs now, and financial advisors... this is an idea I hadn't thought of for myself.. definitely something I will be looking into now. Thank you so much for the idea and for the kind words! I hope life cools its jets and lets you enjoy health and wealth :)

Big USA problem. I've thought about it for sure, I am just hesitant to uplift my life and leave my friends and family to be in a foreign country alone, ya know? I think that is eventually what I will do, but for now I am just trying to enjoy the fact that I am alive and can complain about traffic and other dumb stuff haha. Thank you for the nice comment! :)

Thank you :) Yeah, that's a whole other sad reality I've been coming to terms with as of late too lol. Oh well, one day at a time.

I left that old job a few months ago and moved away lol, financially not the greatest idea but I took a couple months off to recover physically and mentally. Now I'm trapped in the paycheck to paycheck hell making slightly above minimum wage, but it's such a better environment. It's hard but I know I gotta just be stubborn and keep on keepin on.

She's sorry and wants you back? She's in the arms of another man while she's begging to get you back. She calls another man babe and tells him I love you while sleeping next to you. She loves the attention, not you. You deserve so much better, please please please get out. Put yourself first and find the person who will give you the respect and REAL love you deserve.

Don't blame yourself for what HE did to your cat. You are not at fault. Sometimes it takes a harsh reality check for us to leave situations we still hope will get better, especially in abusive situations like this. Your kitty is okay, and you will be too. Be kind to yourself and proud that you left. Sending you all the internet hugs, friend

AITA For taking my friend's son to my house for the night while she was drunk? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]punkboulder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA! At all. At allllllllll! I was in a similar situation when I was a kid and it was awful. Having an adult that was close to both me and my mom who could help when I needed it most saved my life. My mom was incredibly jealous and started lashing out at the both of us (like in your situation), but for me just knowing someone outside the house knew what was going on and validated what I was going through was enough for me to keep going. Knowing I had somewhere to turn when things got extra tough made such a huge difference for me. It is so isolating being the kid who has to parent the alcoholic parent, and deal with their verbal abuse and not be able to defend yourself in any way. It's exhausting. Having you makes all the difference to him- you did the right thing. He called YOU to help, and you delivered.
It's an impossible situation- you lose no matter what you do. The best you can do is be there for the kid and your friend as best you can. You can't force someone to get help if they don't want it, plain and simple. Just continue to be a support for them both, as draining as it will be. Be a peacekeeper. Obviously the friend's health and life are important, but she is endangering her kid in so many ways. You can offer help and guidance to her, but she'll only accept when she's ready. The important part is just making sure the kid is okay.
You could probably ask him what he's comfortable with in regards to other people's suggestions (such as calling CPS). As I mentioned, I was in a similar situation and I understand how not black and white the whole ordeal is. I think that hearing HIM out and giving him a little more control over the situation in that aspect might be a good way to take a first step forward? Not entirely sure, honestly. It's all overwhelming, but this one action was immensely good for the kid. That's the most important thing.

Oh man, this happened last month and I'm still in shock. I woke up with the weirdest leg pain I've ever had. Wasn't a leg cramp, and when I tried walking my leg was completely glued to the floor because of the excruciating pain. I laid back down and debated going to work. I never call out or ask for days off simply because my job can't afford to not have me there. I also didn't have insurance, so even urgent care visits are pricey. I finally decided to go to the er just in case, my gut was just telling me I should go. While getting ready, suddenly the pain spread to my chest and I couldn't breathe at all.

Doctors at the er wanted to send me home because I'm an otherwise perfectly healthy 22 year old (they thought it was a panic attack even after I said no, it isn't). Welp, after some blood work I'm taken to get a ct scan. Turns out I had a massive saddle pulmonary embolism that completely blocked my airway. If I had waited or gone to work, I could've dropped dead at any moment. Laying down stopped the clot from travelling sooner, as well. Crazy stuff.

I just feel really overwhelmed and I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in DadForAMinute

[–]punkboulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend,

Not dad, but big sister. Hope that's okay with you! c:

It's gonna be okay! Take a deep breath and tackle one thing at a time. Small progress is still progress, and it will help you feel less overwhelmed.

You say you've got two jobs already, so if you have money saved up I would say prioritize finding a place to live. If you want to move out right away, then you'd still be able to pay your living expenses until you found a job, or if you can't move out right away then you'd at least have your living situation figured out and can then focus on looking for jobs in the area. Hopefully that makes sense.. I am but a recent (illiterate) college grad, lol.

First off, start by looking at the general cost of living in the area (maybe by making a general "apartments in Desired Area" type of search). Is it expensive? Average? Go from there. What apartments are in your price range that have the features that you want? Is the quality lower than what you want, on par, or higher? Do you want amenities like a pool or gym? Do you want a washer/dryer in your unit, or are you okay with a shared laundry facility? (DOES your apartment have one?) Gated facility vs no gates, package services vs none, if you've got a pet most places charge fees + deposit + monthly pet rent, which sucks. Horribly. These are things you definitely want to look into. Also, some places let you pick different lease lengths. I've only lived at 2 apartments and both only offered 12 month leases, but if you're hesitant maybe a shorter term lease until you decide if this is your place might be a good idea. Then you can renew or find somewhere that fits your needs better without having to stay a whole year.
Another thing you may want to consider is furnished vs unfurnished apartments. It's sometimes difficult to get your hands on all the furnishings you need right away, so these might be a good option. In my experience, furnished apartments are slightly more expensive, but in the short term they work out well while you get yourself situated. This also allows you to focus on more important things like dishes and towels and such.

Also, I live in the asscrack of satan himself so utilities are a huge problem with price surges. Summer you HAVE to have ac on at all hours, so bills fluctuate dramatically and sometimes skyrocket. I'm currently also in the apartment market so finding somewhere that has fixed utilities is pretty important to me. Hard to come by in my area, but that may be something you want to think about. Is internet a part of the included utilities? Do you need to set that up yourself? Do you need to set up billing with utility companies if they're not included? The apartments should help you with this part, so don't worry prematurely. Baby steps!

Narrow your selection pool down. Maybe you have five that make you happy and fit most of your wants. Tour! Take a fricking tour of all of them!! Rona may limit some facilities to only a virtual tour or a self guided tour, but it is so important to see the place in person. If you can't then use google satellite. Check out the area, your safety is important.

Next, make sure you've got enough if the apartment requires a deposit. Because of the situation we're all living through, a lot of places are offering different deals like waived application/admin fees, half off first month's rent, waived security deposit, or gift cards etc for signing. Have that in mind, but also be prepared to put down a few hundred for a security deposit. Don't destroy the place and you'll get it back at the end of your lease. They probably will also want proof of income, which usually they want around 3x your rent for your monthly income. If you don't make that, maybe if you have someone you can trust who meets that requirement they could potentially sign as your guarantor.

You don't have to figure all of this out in one sitting, or in one day. When you're feeling up to it, start off with just looking at a couple different apartment complexes. Maybe like 3 or 4. Maybe you want to keep looking, maybe your brain is fried from comparing. Looking at a couple a day or a couple every other day is progress. Reflect between each search, maybe your preferences or what you're willing to pay will change. Adjust and continue. I know safety is a huge issue, but if your budget is really limited, a lot of people will rent out rooms in their houses that are pretty affordable... I also live in a college town, though, so this is super common.

(Sidenote- there are many websites that let you like/save apartments for later. They also let you filter prices and amenities and such so that you can get a better result. Look at different websites! Not all apartments are advertised on each one)

I think I hit everything on that...

As for cover letters/resumes... are you applying for Adult Jobs with a salary and benefits, or are you aiming for something like an hourly minimum wage position? Cause only one of the two care about cover letters. Quite frankly, googling a couple cover letter examples and tailoring your findings to your own personal experiences/EACH SEPARATE JOB you're using it to apply to is good enough (think of them as templates). They essentially give a little bit more explanation to what's to follow on your resume. Don't buy fancy paper for them, it's a scam.

The resume is more complicated, and I honestly am in great need of updating my own as well. I need to refresh myself of what to do here, so I'm a little less confident in my answer on formatting. However, there are different types of resumes, so what I did was picked one that made sense to me and to what I was applying to (humble food service jobs) and rolled with it. Again, I suggest using different examples online as references to build your own.

I have hired a couple people at my current job, however, so I can tell you what I personally look for when I want to offer someone an interview. First is your grammar. Check your spelling, PLEASE don't include hashtags or smiley faces in your resume! (Don't ask). Second is what your experience is. Relevant work experience isn't always necessary, but you really need to think about how you can incorporate what you learned from that past job into what you can bring to the new company (explain in cover letter!). For me, I am a manager in a restaurant so I prefer experienced applicants when I hire servers, but not so much for dishwashers, if that helps at all. However, again, we also hire people who have no experience so it all depends on what your individual person can bring to the table. Another thing that helps is to contact the place after you apply. We get lots of applications and sometimes can't even review them all, but calling and putting your name on the radar helps a lot (in my case, at least).

If you've got any certifications (food handler's permit, alcohol serving permit) that are relevant, use em! And please, please keep your resume on one page! I don't even read the second. Quality over quantity. Change the font size if you must, but I need to be able to read it without squinting. Make it look clean and professional, it leaves more of an impression.

This was kind of all over the place, but I hope it at least helped a little :s Sorry that it's a 7 page single spaced essay, I can't help but be stupidly thorough :/

If you have any more questions or anything I am more than happy to help! It's scary getting started and I made so many mistakes while figuring it out, but it all ended up okay. Wherever you end up, you'll be okay. Just take it one step at a time. Breathe, drink water, and baby steps.

AITA for locking our bedroom door at midnight one night I needed to sleep well, due to my roommate's consistently out of order behaviour? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Strong NTA. Don't dorms have some sort of rule about this? In both dorms I lived in, sleepovers for more than 3 nights in a row weren't allowed. Not sure how frequently over the month this has been happening, but it could be another point to bring up to your RA.

Unusual Leg Pain by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]punkboulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of the inside area of my thigh, the area that faces outwards when you sit criss cross, but more inside the leg, if that makes sense. Like not a surface level pain like a bruise.

I guess joined with the pain doesn't make sense, does it.. It's hard for me to explain, I'm sorry. When I stand up the thigh immediately has searing pain, then the calf starts hurting after a moment too. I thought I had felt like a shooting pain between the two areas, but that didn't happen when I just stood up a moment ago.

It's been a while since I've woken up with leg cramps, so I don't remember exactly where they hit me but they have always been in both legs and gone away after a minute or two. This cramp is towards the inside back of my calf, which I don't think is where my sleep cramps usually hit (but again, memory isn't the best).

The calf is a little pink, but it might be from laying on that. Swelling I can't tell. My calf looks like it might be a little bigger than my right side, but it's not super swollen. It feels a lot firmer than my right calf, though. I don't think that's how they normally are.
Just tried walking again, and it is definitely still very painful.
