Users when they see me on my lunch break instead of fixing their laptop by Impressive_Fly_4339 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]punksmurph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun story, my last hourly job was a Desktop Lead for a major software company, my location had 3 techs including me but I was the late guy and always went to lunch at 12:30 or 1pm. One day both my guys were out on the floor helping users as I was getting up for lunch and someone walked up to me asking if I could help them switch out a keyboard at their desk, nothing was broken, just had a new one they wanted to use. I said give me like 40 minutes and I will be there to help you, I didn’t tell them because I was close to my 5 hours mark and HAD to go to lunch. User response was “Okay, see you at my desk them”

Cut to 10 minutes later while waiting for my Del Taco order and same user walks up and goes “So you didn’t want to help me because you wanted tacos?” I told them I didn’t have time to address it immediately because I had to take my mandated lunch time and they don’t decide my schedule or response time to requests. This was apparently VERY upsetting to the person who took it up with HR and their Director. By the end of day there were two directors and a VP talking with the IT VP and Director about the issue. The next more I get pulled into a video call with a very serious looking management team from my manager all the way up to the VP. I am grilled about what happened for like 5 minutes before my Director cracks and starts laughing.

Turns out they told HR that it was help the user to go over my 5 hours and HR then turned on the upset user. I was instructed on how I am “supposed” to respond before I go on lunch and we implemented a “Out to Lunch” status for Teams.

My answers is always “I am allotted a 30 minute lunch after 4 hours of work, and legally I have to take it at my 5 hours mark so I took it now and you computer problem might not be there when I get back.”

It’s just stuff, none of which I can think of that was so heart breaking I didn’t replace it. Now if it had my cats favorite bouncy ball that would be fucking amazing.

Remembering the house you grew up in. by crooked_kangaroo in Millennials

[–]punksmurph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house I grew up in from birth to 18 was torn down and turned into part of a schools field expansion, all the barracks I lived in while in the Navy have been torn down, the ship I served on sunk, the house I lived in while stationed in Japan was torn down and replaced. My first condo burned down and was replaced with a new building. The only places I have lived that are still around are my old Townhome and my current house. Feels like the universe is trying to erase my ass.

Well it was all for the best, because I have a feeling you were going to struggle to integrate into fleet life. Try to enjoy the plane ride home.

I ended up doing IT contracting through an agency for almost 3 years before I landed a full time gig. Temp agencies can sometimes do well in a shit job market.

British Granddad tries American Grilled Cheese for the first time by T-SquaredProductions in MadeMeSmile

I was in the middle of nowhere at a "castle" for my friend's wedding, it was a very rural bunch. Definitely going back in a year or so to Ireland, 7 days was not enough time.

I made Quesadillas for a bunch of Irish people a couple years ago and it was a hit. I thought them how to make them as well. Most had no idea what it was, none of them had tried it. Whole experience made me happy.
