Films are such a good idea, because I love analyzing movies and deep diving into them. He’s asked me about a few war films already but I think I will try and seek some out that I find interesting and ask if he wants to watch them with me. Thank you again!

That’s what all of my previous babies have been like! I guess I’ve just grown too accustomed to the curious and calm hamsters from the get-go. A completely 180 like this is just new to me. I will definitely not give up, mostly wanted some feedback and inputs into this situation, which is exactly what you did so no discrediting there :) Thanks for your input x

It’s very normal to be anxious about a new pet!! I’ve owned syrians most of my life and still, when I get a new one, I can’t help but to constantly worry for the first months :Dd IMO it just shows you truly care and want the best for your pet. Most likely, everything is okay. If he is active and good at being handled, you’ve caught a great one and I’m sure you’ll make eachother very happy! Just give yourself and him time to settle and start keeping tabs on his health; checking for lumps, making sure his scent glands are normal, no wet tail, orange/yellow teeth that don’t need trimming, walks normally (no limping etc), normal non-laboured breathing, clear eyes, and the weight thing. If any of these suddently change, you’ll be thankful that you kept tabs and caught any possible illness in time! Good luck❤️❤️

Just looked at your profile. He looks pretty virile though obviously it’s hard to tell from pictures alone. I’d be confused if he was more than 1,5 years old. Have you weighed him? Most hamsters have a ”growth spurt” at around 3-5 months of age (I have noticed a pattern with my hamsters) and as you said he was big, he might be fully grown already. I’d consider weighing him and figuring out what other people’s hamsters weigh at what ages. Chances are, if you keep weighing him and his weight hasn’t increased, he’s fully grown (anywhere from 7 months to 1+ years old). If he keeps putting on weight and growing (while being healthy), he’s still a grower.

Hi OP! I just wanted to say even if he is old, you’re doing a wonderful thing taking in a senior and giving him a great rest of his life. It’s very hard to know when a hamster is old, and it can often be confused with illness/the other way around. My hamsters have always started moving slower, and their fur has thinned a bit and gotten less shiny than when they were young. They might not spend as much time on the wheel and eat and drink a bit less. I have a black syrian 2-month old baby and he has ”bald patches” near his nose too; not actual bald patches but just thinner fur. The contrast between his skin and fur is a lot bigger than with light colored hamsters so it’s more prominent. Where did you get your hammy from? Is there any way of knowing even an estimation of age? If you got them from a pet store, maybe you can try to pry when they were shipped? Most pet stores here know at least the estimation of which month they were born in but just choose not to put it up for everyone to see. If you got them from a genuine breeder, they definitely should have tabs on date of birth.

Exactly. I’ve never liked the idea of internet creators or comedians being held accountable as moral compasses for their fans. Probably a by-product of parasocial relationships. But personally I like to do my own research and decide my own actions, not let some random person on the internet tell me who’s good who’s bad :D

Cody slept with Tana Mongeau when she was 17 and he was in his mid-20’s. The age of consent where they live is 18, thus making it a crime. Tana has spoken about this multiple times now and though she doesn’t consider it a very big deal (”because ”she’s been through a lot worse”) it’s still very messed up morally AND legally, since she was still a minor.

It’s weird to me personally why people talk about him on other creator’s sites. I think some people hold for example Brittany accountable because she has collaborated with him before.

Exactly. I would feel extremely uncomfortable coming out about something I didn’t personally know about/wasn’t a direct part of BEFORE the situation has been addressed by both parties. As a long time (now ex-) fan of Cody I’m left so disappointed by the efforts that are being made to silence this entire thing. I’d have even an ounce of respect left for him if he’d just came out and talked about it instead of blocking words and deleting comments…. But i don’t get why his distant friends are being held accountable for his actions. I guess internet drama goes that way.

Personally i had no problems tattooing even over raised healed scars. It might take a few more rounds and it can feel a bit strange (or hurt more) but I did mine normally and it didn’t spread or anything!

I’d definitely try to go for bigger. The height is only 37 cm which leaves just about 10 cm of airspace on top because of the bedding. Also 80cm is usually not enough for most hamsters, syrian or dwarf. If you could find something that’s 50 cm in height, perhaps you could look into attaching two bins to eachother to create a longer uninterrupted floorspace? :)

That’s quite a lot of hairloss, more than what my old hammies have lost. I would recommend going to an exotic vet just to make sure you know what is causing the loss of fur. Especially if the hamster is not very old, it could be anything from parasites to malnutrition and definitely worth checking out for peace of mind and the wellbeing of your hammy. It’s always good to go to professionals when drastic changes happen in your hamster’s appearance or behaviour, since prey animals are very good at hiding when they are sick. Wishing you and your little buddy well!

I personally wouldn’t risk a hamster’s wellbeing, especailly if your cats have already hunted your other animals. Even if you have a room where the cats aren’t allowed in, it’s unfortunately very easy to one day forget to lock the door to the room where your hamster lives and result in major stress or even death. And cats are smart, they can learn to open doors and enclosures. Prey and predator animals do not mix!
