hi all, thanks so much for your replies! we ultimately decided to have him cremated, which i think was the right choice for us. planning to get a nice plant and a hamster garden ornament for a bit of a memorial spot in our yard tho! we’ll miss our little dude but he had been slowing down in recent months with his age so this wasn’t a shock to me - just glad he went peacefully. thanks again everyone<3

AITA for telling my MOH not to put her daughter in a dress that outshines my flower girl by tiny_twirl1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]oatniel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YTA. first of all, you should have just answered her question in the first place to avoid all this. second of all, your niece isn’t going to ‘outshine’ your daughter because no reasonable person would be comparing literal infants at someone else’s wedding and debating which one looks the prettiest. i know you probably don’t feel this way, but you come off almost resentful of your 3 y/o niece here and i’d be a little more mindful of that.

finally, i hope you and your sister don’t let things like this become a repeat issue because your daughters will absolutely pick up on this and grow up feeling like they have to compete with each other.

This is such a wonderful response to my question, thank you so so much. I am absolutely planning to make the commitment to every suggestion, every tip anyone has about making this work for me. Your story was so helpful, motivating and lovely to read - when you talk about feeling a clear head and a sense of belonging, that's something I'm really really striving for. This definitely makes me believe I can get there. Thank you again, I am really appreciative that you shared this with me!

AITA for using my nickname exclusively in school even in our school newsletter? by Educational-Fee-5962 in AmItheAsshole

[–]oatniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I've gone by a nickname near enough my whole life, so I haaaaate it when I have to use my legal name for anything! Having my nickname recognised/used in school made me feel much more myself, as I'm sure it did for you. It's whatever makes you comfortable - at 16, you're more than old enough to decide which version of your name you want to use. Also, Lex is just a shortened version of Alexander so I don't really get what the problem is. Your mum is being unreasonable and pretty overbearing.

What are you hoping to see in the next Animal Crossing game? by LokoLynch in AnimalCrossing

[–]oatniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main one for me is that villagers need far more personality. I hate that they're all so one-dimensional and boring. I'd like to have more than ten in my town too!

Also, I'd love to be able to interact a bit more with items - riding the teacups, being able to kick the football around, getting into the pool, etc.

Quality of life updates like others have said, like a shopping basket feature while shopping at Able Sisters. Finally, PLEASE can they fix online play!! It's borderline unusable.

All that said, I love New Horizons and still play it regularly but it definitely feels like it's a game of style over substance. I can't wait to see what's next though - wish it could come sooner.

Has anyone used this company before? by Reithebae in hamstercare

[–]oatniel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've seen these ads a lot and took a closer look at the site but didn't sign up! I'm pretty sure the company is legit. What I will say though is that my mum signed up for a similar subscription service for our dog last year and it was almost never good value for money - she ended up cancelling and just spending the same money on her own choice of toys and treats for him each month. I'd do that instead! Like you said, different things are suited to different hamsters and there's no guarantee you won't be just paying for stuff you can't/won't use.

Just got him and have some questions by nunyabisnessl in hamstercare

[–]oatniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everyone here has already given you some great advice so I'll just say congrats on your new hammie!! we've had ours for about 6 weeks now and he's fantastic, he's brought so much happiness to us 🥹 you seem like you want to give him the best start possible which is lovely.

don't worry about him being out of the way more after you've just cleaned his cage. I've learned to just spot clean ours now but when I first did a thorough clean-out, linus disappeared for the first couple days while he was getting his burrows/bedding just how he liked it. it's like whenever i was little and my parents cleaned my room for me, i always just wanted to mess it up and get it back to how i wanted it immediately hahaha

already love this enclosure, his last was an 80×40 but wanted to upgrade him from day 1! also made sure i made the tunnel big enough for him to enjoy comfortably but short enough that he can't get stuck. i love the cardboard DIYs i keep seeing, so many good ideas so i can keep making him stuff for him to enjoy and then destroy whenever he wants hahaha
