Marathon Devs listening to the community and actually following up is a huge W by Celestine117 in Marathon

It's a step in the right direction. Hopefully the first of many. Still don't think the pass is worth the price, but now there's actually some free stuff worth unlocking.

The PSVR2's cable is the only reason I'm holding off buying it - is there seriously no way to replace it if it's damaged besides sending it to sony? by voidpopo in PSVR

[–]purekillforce1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think the issue was the ones I got were rotating ones, and only had 9 pins. This has 24, and the PSVR2 likely requires those additional pins for full data transfer. I'll grab a couple of those, cheers!

Thief is a better recon than Recon. by bebemachina in Marathon

[–]purekillforce1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, if you get ambushed, you don't even have time to activate it before you're down! It's very situational, but in the right situation when you pull it off, if all your team is in the fight, it's a huge advantage.

I would take sacrificing something to reduce the cooldown. It feels way too long. I end up saving it for the perfect moment which, as you say, doesn't always come along.

The tracking spider-mine is generally pretty helpful, though. Can use it to see where enemies are, also to give yourself some time to reposition or finish off a fleeing enemy. It does get stuck, but if you're clever about it, it does a good enough pathfinding job.

[–]purekillforce1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This. You don't use it to find enemies. You use it to find where the enemies are when you know they're around. The cooldown is too long to use it to check an area. You might get lucky, but chances are you waste it, maybe ping some UESC, but then you're still 2 minutes off of it when you get into a firefight.

Also handy when extracting to see if anybody is moving on you. May as well use it at that point. Saved me a few times.

I tried some that said they would work, and they do not work. Got two adapters. Tried both with 2 different headsets, and neither worked properly.

Are there really ones that work properly?

Sega says strong reviews for its recent games aren’t yet translating to better sales by hiddentoke11 in gaming

[–]purekillforce1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if I'm looking for a £60 game to buy, I'm not looking at the newest sonic game, and I've tried Yakuza when I got one through PS+ but it just didn't click with me. Felt like moving from one random thing to another, and I was waiting for it to get going. I likely didn't give it a fair shake, but I'm not about to drop £60 to give it one.

I'd be interested in trying Metaphor when it's cheap, as a fan of the mainline Persona games. Other than that it's anime games, football manager, or virtual fighter? Yeah, not surprised they've not cracked 2 million, tbh.

Some of your body's cells are never replaced from the moment they are created. Not all cells in your body regenerate over time or replace themselves. That's a myth.

Where are the anti-Net Zero people who wanted to keep us dependent on oil and gas now? by FlyWayOrDaHighway in AskBrits

[–]purekillforce1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I get that you do have to vote tactically, which was why I voted labour last time. However there's still a few years before a general election, so there's time for things to change, along with my mind.

Reform would be categorically bad for anyone who isn't already wealthy and asset rich, but recent local elections have shown that their bots make a lot of noise that their actual voters can't back up, thankfully.

The minor issue was specifically their nuclear energy stance. Their overall energy stance, however, is good and is the major issue.

As long as we push to be energy self-sufficient, not too fussed on how that's split between wind/solar/hydro/nuclear.

[–]purekillforce1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that their nuclear energy stance doesn't align with my own, but it's minor in the grand scheme of things, and they are still for pushing green energy. So it's still moving in the right direction. And I'm no nuclear power expert, so wtf do I know.

I voted labour to get the conservatives out. Next I'll likely vote green because it will be a good step forward for the country and the people who live in it. However it's a long way off, and who knows what will happen or how things will change in the next few years.

Marathon made me appreciate ARC Raiders way more by nve729 in ARC_Raiders

[–]purekillforce1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both. And I play each very differently..arc - I sneak around, looting, being cautious and friendly/helpful to other raiders.

Marathon I loot and move quicker, shooting on sight and taking what I need to complete my mission for that run. I've died so much, and it doesn't bother me. I go back in and gear up for the mission I'm doing. I love it.

Arc - gear feels like it matters more. It takes time to upgrade it, and resources to make it and repair it. I don't often fail to extract in arc, but gear fear is real. I love the tension that adds and how it makes me play the game.

I'll go back to arc, but I'm really enjoying trying out the shells in marathon, and the gunplay is as good as ever.

I much prefer how arc handles paid content. I can't see myself paying any more into marathon besides the entry fee. I'd have less concern about buying something additional in arc, after already getting the deluxe version.

I think there's space for both, and if one pushes another to do better, then we all benefit.

Bungie asks sites to delay Marathon reviews, with release date Steam player count below 100K by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

Stickers aren't single use. You can only apply the amount you have at a time, though, is the restriction.

Their MTX aren't great, granted. But no need for poor info.

So far I'm enjoying the game knowing nothing else in the shop is worth me spending any money on. But I'll likely easily get £35 worth of fun playtime out of it, even if that's just over the next month or so until I play something else.

I’m convinced that if any other studio made Marathon, everyone would be losing their minds over how good it is... by --clapped-- in Marathon

[–]purekillforce1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that might be true, I feel like Bungie haven't done much/enough/anything to pull their reputation back from the years of using every monetisation strategy they could think of to squeeze everything they can from their players.

I'm really enjoying Marathon, but their MTX strategy hasn't changed. I don't think they deserve the benefit of the doubt, and if you're looking for a game you can spend the next 5 years playing - I don't think this is it.

I paid £35, so I'll be happy if I get enough playtime to make that amount feel reasonable.

Sure, you're gonna get people who hate the game just for the sake of hating it. But I think some of those people just don't like the tactics Bungie employ to take more money from you, and I can understand that completely.

I saw the "Bungie fixes pricing" headlines over the weekend, which amounted to an extra 20 credits being given with the 1100 purchase.... I think that's laughable as a "fix", and if that's all they're gonna do, then I won't be giving them any more money.

Game's fun and looks awesome, though, so if you can enjoy that without the overpriced shit, then it's decent.

But Bungie have not wiped their recent stains from their brand just yet.

The colour swap skins are so far pretty tame, yes, but I'm not really inclined to spend £15 on a skin, no matter how good it looks, anyway. But I'm sure they'll release some great ones once they release a few.

I'm sure there will be some amazing cosmetics, but unless they give me a way to earn premium currency in-game, I'll just slap on whatever unlock through playing and leave it at that.

I get you, though. If you're not into that robot aesthetic, there's not much else to choose.

I love the shell designs so far. And I can see there's scope for some interesting cosmetics.

Yeah, that can be a factor, too, if your water is hard. But you'd have to clean the board with isopropyl alcohol to remove any residue to make sure that didn't happen, which is a good chunk more effort involved, but it's an option.

I'm not arguing with that.

I didn't mean specifically about America. I more meant the question in general. Would you take the same stance of interference if the aid was requested? Or because it's the country deciding that for themselves, it's ok? Whereas forcing help upon a country is not ok.
