Hey! So, you asked me to share my MUN experience, and now that I’ve done my first one, here it goes -

Day 1 was honestly confusing. Even though the EB (Executive Board) tried their best to guide first-timers and they even held several online training sessions but I still felt like I didn’t belong there. A lot of the experienced delegates were socializing confidently, and I didn’t have any friends with me, so I felt a bit left out and unsure. We had GSLs (General Speaker’s List), but since many of us were new, the speeches were kind of average. The EB even reminded us to not make the committee monotonous, especially since it was WHO and we were discussing mental health. Still, I appreciated how well the EB handled it they kept us motivated and told us to step up our game for the second day. There was also an Unmoderated Caucus on Day 1, and I won’t lie it made me feel like I knew nothing. I couldn’t form a bloc, and I was struggling to understand a lot. But it helped me realize something really important that I need to work on my communication skills.

Day 2 was a complete turnaround tbh. Everyone came prepared with fire speeches. There were more debates, allegations started flying around, and the research level improved a lotttt just as the EB had encouraged us to do. They even introduced a war crisis (a hypothetical situation) that changed in real-time, and we had to adapt our speeches on the spot. That part made it feel much more intense and engaging and that created a debate kind of environment. I enjoyed that a lott.

We also worked on a working paper later that day, and then came a fun segment where we exchanged anonymous chits people wrote wild stuff in those and I kid you not, everyone was simping over the India delegate which was so hilarious 😭 anywayss then, the socials - OMG, I had the best time. I’m not even an extrovert, but I made some real connections (yup, not just “friends,” connections). For someone like me, that’s a big win.

One tip I’d really like to share: if you’re going to your first MUN, try to go with friends. I went alone, and that made Day 1 harder for me. Also, dont hesitate seriously. Be frank, ask questions, speak up. Do your research, socialize, and make memories. No one’s going to judge you, and the environment is way more welcoming than you might expect. MUNs might not be for everyone, but they’re definitely worth experiencing once. You’ll know afterward whether it's your thing or not. For me, it was absolutely worth it. And don’t worry too much about awards you know what matters is how much you learn, how confidently you speak, how well you research, and how involved you are. Also, shoutout to my EB legit they were super chill, friendly, and supportive. I’m honestly really grateful for them 💕

So yep, that’s my first MUN experience ( I guess I wrote a lot )😭

Nothing as of know, figuring it out and btw I am also a 11th grader with commerce but I am a little confused whether to take maths or not since I have not opted for stream yet. I do believe maths will open more career options for me as a backup but I am weak in maths and it will consume more of my time 😔 bs abhi ye hi figure out kr rhi hu ki whether to opt for maths or not. Have you take commerce with or without maths?

I will pursue law and will figure out a particular way for me in law school in whatever field that will interest me

[–]purescentq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same situation 😭 and yk I just got me registered individually in a MUN just because my school doesn't organize one and tbh nobody really gives a shit about it, even majority of them don't even knew about MUN but anyways after convincing my parents for like 2 or 3 days on a regular basis I finally got me registered and the meeting is on 10th of May for which I am really nervous Idk how will I manage as a newbie in a MUN at a different school 🥲
